This week Michael and Kristina chat about disclosure and the part that plays in ensuring both individuals feel confident and comfortable to negotiate at mediation.

Disclosure can be a difficult point for many people, it can be time consuming and not always easy, particularly for those of us that aren’t the most tech savvy. But it is an important part of the process and the best way to allow for transparency and a path forward.

Have you entered the disclosure stage of separation yet? If not, save this as a reminder for when you need it.

We have such a strong team.

Whether in Court, through mediation or otherwise, at BFLC you may not realise the team effort that is supporting you.

For Kara being overseas, it’s not as big a challenge as you’d expect.

This week Kara fills us in on how she appears in Court proceedings and how our team supports each other.

Have you got a question for a family lawyer? Send it through! We want to hear from you.

Protecting what you've built isn't selfish.

For many people, a home, a business, an investment portfolio, or even a future inheritance represents years of hard work, sacrifice, and planning.

Wanting to protect those things is normal. And it doesn't mean you trust your partner any less.

It means you're recognising the reality that relationships and finances are often intertwined.

A Binding Financial Agreement can help create clarity around:
• assets acquired before the relationship
• businesses and investments
• future inheritances
• financial expectations
• what happens if circumstances change

The conversation isn't about choosing money over love, it's about making informed decisions together.

Because protecting what you've built and building a life with someone else can happen at the same time.

On the outside, everything looks normal.
On the inside, everything has just shifted.

The first days and weeks after separation can feel like you’re expected to just keep going — work, kids, life — while privately trying to process one of the biggest changes you’ll ever go through.

There’s often pressure to “have it together” straight away, but separation doesn’t work on that kind of timeline.

What people often experience right after separating:
• Emotional highs and lows while still showing up day-to-day
• Uncertainty about what happens next with kids, money, and living arrangements
• Feeling pressure to make decisions before they feel ready

You don’t need to have everything figured out immediately. The legal process is designed to unfold over time — not all at once.

If you’ve just separated, clarity starts with understanding your options, not rushing decisions under pressure.

So, jump online and book a free 15-minute phone call. We can talk you through your next steps and you won't feel so alone.

If you're at the beginning of separation, progress can feel impossible to measure.

Healing rarely happens all at once. The small steps count. And the small wins count.

One conversation.
One decision.
One good day.

It's about momentum. And sometimes just having a conversation can allow for that momentum to flow freely.

If you'd like to have a discussion and start preparing, head to the link in our bio and prepare by making an appointment. We can provide you with resources to continue preparing and start that flow of momentum.

One of the biggest misconceptions about separation is that everything needs to happen immediately.

But there are always so many things to consider, so many moving parts!
The house. The finances. The parenting arrangements.

The legal process.

When your world feels like it's shifting beneath your feet, the pressure to make big decisions can feel really overwhelming. But guess what?

You don't need to make every decision today.

Sometimes the most important thing to do is just pause.

Take a breath, create some space and perhaps find a temporary plan while you work out the long-term one.
Because there's actually no rush. And this is a pivotal moment in your life to step into a different version of yourself.

📖 Splitsville was written to help people understand what comes next and navigate separation with greater clarity and confidence.

Culture is what we repeat. 🌈
The support. The friendships. The people behind the scenes who keep everything moving.

(and the fun behind the scenes too!)

That's what makes the difference.

We keep these.
Not because they tell us we've done a good job.
We keep them because they remind us what's at the heart of this work.
Behind every meeting, phone call and court date is a person or family navigating one of life's biggest transitions. To know they've felt supported, heard and cared for along the way means more to us than we can put into words.
Receiving a handwritten card like this is something we'll never take for granted.
To every client who has trusted us to walk alongside them, thank you. 💛
