Important Update
Australia has introduced the Migration Amendment (2026 Measures No. 1) Act 2026, which came into effect on 13 March 2026.
This legislation gives the government a new power to temporarily suspend the entry of certain groups of temporary visa holders through a mechanism known as an Arrival Control Determination. These measures may be implemented in response to changing conditions in a person’s country of origin, such as conflict or civil unrest, including situations currently affecting Iran and parts of the Middle East.
Importantly, this means that even if you hold a valid visa, your ability to enter Australia may be restricted while a determination is in place.
What this means for you:
- Travel is currently unaffected.
- There is no immediate cause for concern.
- However, this introduces a level of future uncertainty, as restrictions could be applied at short notice.
- Holding a valid visa may no longer guarantee entry if a determination is in place.
We will continue monitoring how these new powers are applied and will provide further updates as more information becomes available, particularly regarding any specific classes of foreign nationals impacted.
In the meantime, we recommend staying informed through official government updates and considering flexible travel arrangements where possible.
