Summing up the first day of DAW2023, Arbitration Court of Arbitration LLC is delighted to be a part of the event and specifically taking part both in the opening ceremony which was in Jumeirah Emirates Towers and in the side events.
Organized by McNair Law Firm International / Global Advocacy and Legal Counsel / Mintz Group on the topic “Thinking beyond the final award: Achieving effective outcomes in international arbitration” composed of two sessions.
Session 1 Challenges to and Enforcement of Judgments and Arbitration Awards: the UAE and English Jurisdictions Compared the participants discussed more about cross-border enforcement. Khawar Qureshi KC addressed key trends and developments from the English courts. Ayman Merdas- the UAE framework for challenging/enforcing judgments and awards. Tom Evans-gave an insight into what a litigation funder really needs to see when on any application for funding on a challenge or enforcement action.
Session 2 Asset Tracing and Investigation for Disputes: Key Issues
It focused switches to examining how asset tracing and investigations can enhance the prospects of achieving an effective outcome from international arbitration. Khawar Qureshi KC addressed pre-action and post-action remedies concerning sovereign and commercial assets. Ian Casewell gave a front-line insight into the practical issues every professional and discussed client needs to know about asset tracing and investigations. David Hunt analised how asset tracing and investigative reports can be deployed most effectively in cross-border litigation and arbitration.
“Enforcement of awards over virtual assets” was organized by Fichte & Co and Lexis Nexis Middle East and it featured a panel of four expert speakers, led an open discussion, providing valuable insights and addressing questions from attendees.
Accuracy organized “GCC market update: what does it mean for the future of international arbitration.” The GCC, consisting of countries such as Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, and Oman, has been a significant player in the international business landscape.
A very up-to-date topic on Technology and Arbitration: Exploring the Role of Artificial Intelligence, Blockchain, Online Platforms, and Other Tools in Resolving Disputes which was organized by Galadari Advocates & Legal Consultants. The event organized by Galadari Advocates & Legal Consultants sheds light on the evolving landscape where artificial intelligence (AI), blockchain, online platforms, and other tools are playing increasingly significant roles in the arbitration process.
"ESG in International Arbitration" organized by Deloitte where the speakers discussed the intersection of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) factors with international arbitration represents a crucial and evolving dimension in the legal landscape.

A highly efficient session was the one titled "Dubai International Arbitration Centre and American Arbitration Association (institutional roles, case management) – International Centre for Dispute Resolution® (ICDR)."
Following the opening addresses by Jehad Abdulrazzaq Kazim, Director of Dubai International Arbitration Centre, and Bridget Mary McCormack, President, and CEO of the American Arbitration Association, participants engaged in two panels, exploring topics related to sustainable arbitration, the functions of arbitral institutions, and the efficient management of cases in international arbitration.

💡 The Psychology of International Arbitration organized by Dentons & Co. within the DAW2023. The panel explored the role that psychology has to play (alongside legal arguments) in achieving the desired end result. The panelists touched upon such issues, as how psychology can play a part in the strategy of reaching the end goal, insights into Tribunal decision making, the art of advocacy and how to convince a Tribunal, Psychological influences on witness testimony; and the psychology of dealing with your opposing Counsel/party.
