Salary day in the UAE: your September salary is due today, 1 October.

Under MOHRE's new Wage Protection System rules (in force since 1 June 2026), every private sector employer must pay the previous month's salary by the 1st of each month. Any payment after that date counts as delayed.

What employees should know:
🔹 This replaces the payment date in your contract. Every private sector company now has the same payday.
🔹 MOHRE can warn employers from day 2, and suspend new work permits from day 5.
🔹 If you're paid at least 85% of your salary, you're not counted as unpaid, but you can still claim the rest.
🔹 You have 2 years from the end of your employment to file a labour claim.

Salary delayed, unpaid gratuity, or facing termination after complaining? Don't resign or sign a settlement before getting advice.

Planning to travel? Check for a travel ban before you go to the airport.

A travel ban in the UAE is often linked to a court case, an unpaid debt, a bounced cheque, or a rental or labour dispute. Many people only find out at the airport.

How to check in Dubai:
1️⃣ Open the Dubai Police app or website.
2️⃣ Select "Circulars and Travel Bans."
3️⃣ Enter your Emirates ID and verify with the OTP.
4️⃣ The result shows whether the matter is financial or criminal and which authority to contact.

For Abu Dhabi, use the Judicial Department's Estafser service. Other emirates have their own channels.

If a ban shows up:
🔹 Don't try to travel. Find out which case it comes from.
🔹 In civil cases, the ban is normally lifted once the case is resolved or the amount in the ex*****on file is settled.
🔹 A lawyer can review the case, negotiate a settlement, or challenge the ban in court.

Under the UAE Civil Procedure Law, court notices can legally be served through SMS, email, WhatsApp, and recorded calls, not just by hand delivery. Many people ignore these messages, thinking they're spam, and only find out about the case once a judgment has been issued.

If you receive one:

1️⃣ Don't ignore it and don't delete it. Take a screenshot and note the date you received it.
2️⃣ Verify it through official Dubai Courts channels (website or app), not through links in the message.
3️⃣ Check the case number, the hearing date, and who filed the case.
4️⃣ Speak to a lawyer before the first hearing. Early steps like replying to the claim, filing documents, or a counterclaim can shape the whole case.

A case filed against you keeps moving whether you respond or not. The sooner you act, the more options you have.
