This is a 50 years old man, Mr. Zialule Sakala who is now being portrayed as a poacher because of being found in possession of buffalo game meat on Zambia-Mozambique border area which was sold to him through a barter system in which he was supposed to pay with mealie -meal worth K1,600. He went to buy fish but was coerced and convinced by a female trader to get buffalo meat instead and was later caught and apprehended since he did not have papers for the meat. The law is very harsh on anyone found with unlicensed game meat but the process of people to get the licences is also not an easy one. Unfortunately when rich white guys come to get the same animals, the game changes to hunting and not poaching and they are accorded all the logistical requirements for their actions to be within the law. For villagers it's tough as before the colonialists came, game meat was part of the menu as men went out freely to hunt but now they need papers which are difficult to get for any animal in the wild using archaic laws left by the colonialists. Mr Sakala if convicted is likely to get seven years or more in prison, a very harsh sentence for a family man who was just trying to put food on the table for his family.
