🔵 Justice Lab Zambia Joins the Blue Heart Campaign
1st July 2025 | World Day Against Human Trafficking Month

Today marks the beginning of a critical global advocacy month against Human Trafficking, under the theme:
"Human Trafficking is Organized Crime ,End the Exploitation"
This theme reminds us that exploitation is not accidental it’s systemic, violent, and coordinated.

At Justice Lab Zambia, we are proud to stand with UNODC, the Blue Heart Campaign, and global partners to raise awareness, advocate for policy reform, and support community-centered approaches to ending trafficking in persons.

Human trafficking is not a distant crime it’s in our communities, markets, transport routes, and even online spaces. Internally displaced persons (IDPs), refugees, and vulnerable children remain the most at risk, often with little access to legal protection or justice.

Did you know Zambia has a National Policy on Human Trafficking?
This July, through our ProbonoAid Initiative, we are leading sensitization efforts to help social movements, youth-led organizations, churches, and community clinics understand and use this policy to prevent trafficking, protect survivors, and hold perpetrators accountable.

We are calling on the state, CSOs, legal practitioners, and youth movements to rise not just in outrage, but with action.

We are happy to share highlights from our recent two-day practical training on plastic and paper recycling, hosted by Youth4Climate Justice at Global Platform Zambia on June 26th-27th! 🌿💡
This event was part of our World Environmental Day commemoration, centred around the theme .

Participants gained valuable insights, including:

- Practical recycling skills, such as making bins and bricks from plastic waste
- A deeper understanding of Zambia's waste management laws and policies
- Crucial knowledge on accessing financing for green projects
- Actionable small-scale business ideas in the green economy

We explored effective solutions, including reducing single-use plastics, improving waste collection, and promoting recycling.
A key takeaway: youth innovation is vital! Let's continue to raise awareness, develop creative solutions, and empower young people to lead environmental change.

Huge thanks to everyone who joined! 🙏 Together, let's tackle plastic pollution head-on. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle! ♻️✅💚

🌍 World Refugee Week 2025 |

This week, we stand in solidarity, remembrance, and action for the millions of people around the world forced to flee their homes in search of safety, dignity, and hope.

At JusticeWatch Africa, we believe that refugees are not just survivors—they are leaders, learners, and changemakers.

Under this year’s theme “Community as a Superpower,” we honor the strength found in unity, shared responsibility, and youth-driven advocacy.

Join us as we amplify refugee voices, engage communities, and advocate for a world where no one is left behind.

📢 Stay tuned for our upcoming activities, events, and reflections throughout the week!

Children in the Middlewast 📌

“This weekend’s surge in violence across the Middle East signals a dangerous escalation. Children are once again paying the ultimate price.

Since Friday, an intense military escalation in the region has seen strikes on Iran and Israel hit residential areas, killing and injuring civilians – including children – and causing damage to civilian infrastructure.

Beyond the death toll, this alarming escalation creates widespread fear and trauma among children in all communities.

UNICEF strongly condemns all forms of violence against children. Our thoughts are with all the families and communities mourning this tragic loss of life.

We reiterate the Secretary-General's call for all sides to show maximum restraint, avoiding at all costs a descent into deeper conflict, a situation the region and its children cannot afford.

UNICEF urgently calls on all parties to uphold their obligations under international law and to ensure the protection of civilians, in particular children. All children have the right to live without the threat of war and violence.

UNICEF, together with other UN agencies and humanitarian partners, is actively assessing the situation and remains ready to scale up support to affected children and their families as needed and requested.”

Statement by UNICEF Executive Director Catherine Russell on the children killed by the alarming escalation of violence in the Middle East.
