Much has been said about 31 August 2026 regarding registration of customary law marriages. I intentionally avoided the debate to allow the young legal minds to debate it. For the past 5 years, I have been recommending the registration of customary law marriages to protect the rights of those involved, especially women. Secondly, to avoid uncertainty. Whatever it is about, 31 August is irrelevant in this context. I urge and encourage those who still have not registered their customary marriages to do so as soon as possible.
