ETHEKWINI MUNICIPALITY WRITES OFF DEBTS OF HOUSE BELONGING TO DECEASED AND INSOLVENT ESTATES
The above decision was take adopted on 29 August 2024.
Requirements;
- Value of the house must be less than R1 Million;
- House must be a residential household, not business;
- There must be a surviving beneficiary with a legal title to represent the estate to avoid re-emergence of debt.
- Debt must be older than 24 months.
This will afford many beneficiaries or executors the ability to sell their houses as one of the requirements to sell a house is to provide a rates clearance certificate, which means paying off all debts of the property.
Applications can be directed at any customer service centre (SIZAKALA) within the jurisdiction of the eThekwini municipality. (NOT ME)😅
If however, one owner of the property is deceased, but there is a surviving spouse or co-owner. Then you need to attend at Florence Mkhize Building, 251 Anton Lembede St, Durban.
