I was sitting in a coffee shop when the conversation at the next table caught my attention.
Three women were having an early-morning coffee. One was upset because her former husband never paid maintenance on the same date each month.
Within minutes, everyone was offering legal advice.
Advice from a friend’s cousin.
Something somebody had seen on Facebook.
A story about what happened to someone else’s neighbour.
None of it made her feel any better.

I kept thinking: what if, instead of adding fuel to her frustration, someone had simply said, “Invite him to mediation”?
In mediation, she could explain what late payments do to her budget, her debit orders and her ability to provide for the children.
He could explain why he struggles to pay on the agreed date.
Then, with a mediator’s help, they could look for a practical arrangement that works better for everyone.

Mediation does not decide who is the better person.
It helps people understand the problem beneath the argument, and find a workable way forward.

Sometimes a difficult conversation, held in the right room, can prevent years of resentment.

What does a mediator actually do?

A mediator doesn’t decide who is right or wrong, and doesn’t take sides.

Instead, mediation creates a structured space to listen, understand the real issues, and explore practical solutions that work for the people involved.

The outcome remains in your hands.

Sometimes, moving forward starts with simply having the right conversation.

Divorce doesn’t have to mean a battle.

Separation can be difficult enough without the process creating even more conflict.

Mediation offers a structured, neutral space to work through important decisions around parenting, finances and future arrangements - with the focus on finding practical solutions and a way forward.

You don’t have to agree on everything to make progress.

There is another way.

No two conflicts are exactly the same, and mediation shouldn’t treat them as if they are.

Every situation comes with its own history, relationships, concerns and priorities. That’s why my approach to mediation is tailored to the people involved and the issues that need to be addressed.

Whether you’re navigating a separation, working through co-parenting arrangements, dealing with family conflict, facing a workplace dispute or trying to resolve a civil or commercial matter, mediation creates a structured space to have the conversations that matter.

The aim isn’t simply to “settle a dispute”. It’s to understand what is important to each person, identify the real issues and explore practical ways forward.

🌿 Because different conflicts need different conversations.

Meet Drinnette. The Mediator.

Law is part of what I do, but mediation is where my passion lies.

For me, mediation is about helping people navigate difficult conversations, understand different perspectives and find practical ways forward.

Over the next few weeks, I’ll be sharing more about mediation - how it works, when it can help, and what you can expect from the process.

Let’s talk mediation.

Every mediation follows a process.

It begins with listening - not to decide who is right, but to understand what truly matters.

Once the real issues become clear, we explore practical options that work for everyone involved.

The goal isn't to force agreement.
It's to help people make informed decisions and move forward with clarity, dignity and respect.

Because lasting solutions begin with better conversations.

Mediation isn't about forcing people to agree.

It's about creating a safe, respectful space where everyone feels heard, understands the real issues, and can explore practical solutions together.

The goal isn't to decide who's right or wrong - it's to help people move forward with clarity, dignity and mutual understanding.

Whether you're navigating family conflict, divorce, parenting plans or workplace challenges, mediation can help turn difficult conversations into constructive ones.

Not every conflict is the same. Neither is every solution.

Every family, relationship and workplace faces unique challenges. That's why mediation is never about a one-size-fits-all approach—it's about understanding the people involved and finding practical solutions that work for their specific circumstances.

I assist individuals, couples, families and organisations with:

• Divorce & Separation
• Parenting Plans
• Family Conflict
• Workplace Conflict
• Civil & Commercial Disputes

As a mediator, my role isn't to decide who's right or wrong. My role is to create a safe, respectful space where people can communicate more effectively, explore options, and work towards solutions that allow everyone to move forward with dignity.

If you're facing a difficult conversation or conflict, mediation may be the first step towards finding a better way forward.

The Myth About Mediation

One of the biggest misconceptions about mediation is that both people have to "meet in the middle" on every issue.

In reality, mediation isn't about dividing everything equally. It's about understanding each person's circumstances, identifying what matters most, and exploring solutions that are practical, realistic and sustainable.

Every family, every business and every dispute is different. A fair outcome is one that considers the needs of everyone involved - not necessarily one where everything is split exactly the same.

Mediation creates a space where people can have these conversations respectfully, with guidance that helps move discussions forward.

💬 What does a fair outcome mean to you?

THE POWER OF LISTENING

Sometimes people are not asking,
“Will you agree with me?”

They are asking,
“Will you listen to me?”

Feeling heard can change the way we approach conflict.

Mediation creates a space where each person has the opportunity to speak, listen and better understand the other’s perspective - without interruption, judgement or the pressure to “win”.

You don’t have to agree on everything to begin finding a way forward.

Sometimes, the first step towards resolution is simply feeling heard. 🤍
