Today, we stand with the Manzi family in their time of unimaginable pain and loss.

The Great People Of South Africa NPO continues to support the family of Entle Manzi, whose life was brutally taken by someone who once claimed to love her.

The case has been postponed to the 20th of May 2026, and as we await justice, we are reminded once again of the harsh reality of femicide in South Africa.

Women continue to live under the shadow of violence, often at the hands of those closest to them.

This is not just one family’s tragedy — it is a national crisis. We cannot normalize this pain. We cannot be silent.

We call on communities to stand together, to protect, to speak out, and to demand accountability. Justice for Entle must not only be about a court outcome, but about changing the systems and mindsets that continue to fail women.

COMMUNITY UPDATE: REQUEST FOR A MOBILE POLICE STATION – WARD 1, STERKSPRUIT

The Great People of South Africa would like to provide an update to the community regarding our recent request to the South African Police Service for the deployment of a mobile police station to service Ward 1 in Sterkspruit, including Ndofela and surrounding villages.

Following the submission of our formal request, we received a call from Captain Mangqoyi on behalf of the Joe Gqabi SAPS District leadership, confirming that they have received our email and that the matter is being taken seriously.

During our discussion, Captain Mangqoyi indicated that the issue of policing resources in the area has already been part of discussions within the district, although Ndofela Village had not previously been included in those discussions.

We are encouraged to report that SAPS leadership has acknowledged the concerns raised and has committed to making arrangements to engage directly with the community.

Importantly, we have been informed that Ndofela Village will now be included in the list of areas that will form part of these dialogues, with the goal of ensuring that the community is properly considered in the planning of policing resources.

These discussions will ultimately contribute to exploring the deployment of a mobile police station that can serve Ndofela and surrounding villages in Ward 1.

As The Great People of South Africa, we would like to thank the leadership of SAPS in Aliwal North and the Joe Gqabi District for responding to our concerns, listening to the challenges faced by residents, and providing guidance on the appropriate processes to engage with SAPS leadership at district level.

This is an important step forward for our community. Access to policing services is a constitutional right, and rural communities must not be left behind when it comes to safety, justice, and protection.

We will continue to keep the community informed as further engagements take place.

Together, we continue to advocate for and for all.

Sincerely

The Great People of South Africa (TGPSA)

As we approach International Women’s Day tomorrow, The Great People of South Africa takes a moment to reflect on the many women who continue to shape the struggle for justice, dignity, and equality across our communities and our continent.

From the women serving in the Pan Africa Youth Parliament, to the women within the Southern Africa Youth Forum, the Women of the South Speak Out (WOSSO) fellowship, the Futurelect Women in Public Office programme, and the many women working alongside us through The Great People of South Africa — these spaces remind us that African women are actively building the future of this continent.

Women across Africa and the Global South continue to organise, lead, heal, and inspire change in their communities. Though our journeys may be different, we are united by a shared belief that justice, dignity, and equality must shape the Africa we leave for the next generation.

Ahead of International Women’s Day, our Founder reflects on the women who walk beside her in this work and the matriarchs whose footsteps continue to guide us.

A feminist leader has been assassinated.

Yanar Mohammed dedicated her life to protecting women facing violence, war, and oppression. She built hope where systems failed and defended those society often forgot. Her killing is devastating — but it is also deeply alarming.

This was not just violence against one woman.
It was an attack on feminism, on human rights defenders, and on humanity itself.

Across the world, wars continue to destroy communities and silence those who speak for justice. Women leaders are increasingly targeted simply for defending freedom and equality.

We cannot normalize the killing of those who protect others.

Today we mourn.
Today we rage.
And today we recommit ourselves to continuing the fight for justice and dignity everywhere.

RISE in power, Yanar Mohammed. Your courage lives on.

Over the past three days, community-based organisations across the Western Cape gathered under the GBVF Response Fund for a powerful space of reflection, learning, accountability, and collective growth.

The experience reminded us that ending gender-based violence requires partnership, patience, and sustained investment in grassroots organisations working daily on the frontline.

We are deeply grateful to the GBVF Response Fund team for their human-centred approach to funding and for walking this journey alongside us.

I invite you to read our reflections from this meaningful engagement.
