Arizona School Districts Suing JUUL

Phoenix Union High School District has joined a national lawsuit against JUUL. The district’s governing board voted unanimously to authorize the district to proceed with the suit, which claims JUUL has caused students to become addicted to va**ng, which has placed a burden on schools.

Tucson Unified School District filed its own lawsuit last month against the e-cigarette company. Several other Arizona school districts are joining or are considering joining other school districts around the country to file a lawsuit against JUUL Labs. The districts include Tolleson Union High District and Alhambra Elementary School District.

Several school districts in Arizona are joining others across the country to sue the biggest name in va**ng, Juul.

Former FDA Chief says all JUUL Va**ng Products Should be Pulled from Market

Former FDA Commissioner, Dr. Scott Gottlieb, said Monday that JUUL Labs’ products should be removed from the market, citing two studies that showed the scope of teen use of its e-cigarette products and flavored pods. “It’s very clear that JUUL can’t keep their products out of the hands of kids. What’s driving the youth use is primarily JUUL.”

The studies published last week in the Journal of the American Medical Association found that JUUL dominates the e-cigarette market among teens, with its mint pods being the most popular. The study also highlighted that 27.5% of high school students and 10.5% of eighth graders said they currently used JUUL as their e-cigarette of choice.

Following the release of the studies, JUUL halted sales of its mint flavors.

"It's very clear that Juul can't keep their products out of the hands of kids," says Scott Gottlieb. "It could be that this product can't exist on the market anymore."

JUUL Labs to Suspend Sales of Flavored Vapes; Signs Settlement to Stop Marketing to Youth

JUUL Labs has stopped sales of all non-tobacco and non-menthol flavors, the company announced Thursday. The flavors suspended include mango, fruit, and cucumber, which are considered an on-ramp to teen va**ng.

The company’s new CEO K.C. Crostwaithe said JUUL Labs is focused on working to “combat underage use while providing an alternative to adult smokers.”

The non-profit group Center for Environmental Health announced a legally binding agreement of its lawsuit that will limit JUUL’s marketing to kids and teens.

Flavored e-cigarettes have hooked millions of teens to ni****ne. Now, Juul says it will suspend sales of many flavors. Some call the move too little, too late.

States Investigating over 1,000 Va**ng-Related Illnesses, Death Toll Now at 11
State health departments in almost every state are actively investigating over 1,000 cases of severe lung illnesses associated with va**ng. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s official case count is at 530, which only includes confirmed or probably cases.
To date, 11 people have died from va**ng-related lung illnesses. Two people have died in both California and Kansas. Additional deaths have occurred in Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota, Missouri, and Oregon. Georgia confirmed its first death yesterday an Florida confirmed a death on Tuesday of this week.

Congress Threatens to Subpoena JUUL; Says Company is Not Cooperating with Probe

A House panel is threatening to subpoena JUUL Labs, saying the e-cigarette market leader is not cooperating with a congressional probe looking at whether the company intentionally targeted kids.
Lawmakers at the hearing made a number of requests to Juul co-founder James Monsees and Chief Administrative Officer Ashley Gould, including the list of schools that received funding from Juul for anti-va**ng curriculum and the contract Marlboro-maker Altria signed with Juul when it took a 35% stake in the company late last year.

The House subcommittee that oversees consumer product investigations launched its a probe of Juul in June, holding two days of hearings in July. In a letter to Juul sent Wednesday, subcommittee chairman Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi, D-Ill., said Juul has not fully complied with the panel's request.

Altria CEO Says Va**ng Industry at "Pivotal Moment"
The va**ng industry is at a "pivotal moment" amid an onslaught of regulatory and public backlash due to a deadly outbreak of a va**ng related lung illness and soaring teen use, says Altria CEO Howard Willard. Altria invested $12.8 billion for a 35% stake in JUUL late last year.

This is a "pivotal moment" for the va**ng industry, Altria CEO Howard Willard said in a speech Wednesday at the Global To***co & Ni****ne Forum.
