This is one of the hardest decisions parents make — but also one of the most important parts of estate planning.

Here are a few things to think about:

1️⃣ Shared values
Who would raise your children in a way that reflects your beliefs, culture, and priorities?

2️⃣ Emotional connection
Who already has a loving relationship with your kids?

3️⃣ Age & life stage
Are they in a position to realistically take on the responsibility?

4️⃣ Location
Would your children have to move far away from family, school, or community?

5️⃣ Willingness
Always ask the person first. Guardianship should never be a surprise.

Remember: choosing a guardian doesn’t mean you expect something to happen. It simply means that if the unthinkable does occur, you — not just the court — made the decision for your children.
