🙌 Did you know 60% of our communication as humans is non-verbal?

This includes our voice volume, tone, inflection, facial movements, hand gestures and body movements. Becoming more cognizant of non-verbal communication can be a fascinating - and very useful - part of our practices as attorneys. 😃😆😉😌🥲

Consider if you are sitting in a deposition: You have a general sense that the deponent is nervous, but also recognize most deponents are nervous. 😬

Tell me this - Where do you look when you ask the hard questions of your deponent:
✔ Your notes?
✔ Your deponent's face - if so what part?
✔ Somewhere else?

Use DocuPlayer + Clio to seamlessly manage your documents and explain documents to your Clients. Here’s how:

1- Use the Integrations tab to Connect Clio to your DocuPlayer Account.
2- After saving a document to your Client file in Clio, click the dropdown menu for “View” and click “Record Video”.
3- Follow the prompts to start recording.
4- Your Clio document will automatically be attached to the new recording.

DocuPlayer + Clio: We work hard to make your job easier!

It works well for all practice areas, but to spotlight one, Pullen, , Ansel, it is really popular for family law. (Having your rewindable walk-through of a Settlement Agreement or Court ruling is comforting to your client.)

Technically, we communicate in three steps…

☑ Encoding
☑ Decoding

💭 When the sender transforms their thoughts, ideas or concepts into verbal speech or a written message, this is known as encoding. Encoding refers to the encryption of ideas from the perspective of the sender.

When the message is received by the receiver, the recipient reads and understands it. Or do they? 🤷‍♀️

Decoding refers to the interpretation of information from the perspective of the receiver, your client. When the information sent is clear, the process ends there and you’re ready to move on efficiently to the next step.

📣 Great communication skills? 📣 Yep, this is vital to a successful, rewarding practice. You need to communicate well with your clients, staff, partners, associates, other lawyers, and vendors.

Improving your communication skills will let you express yourself with more confidence; more confidence will help you attract more clients and influence your peers and referral sources.
😄 Master this one, and you will enjoy your practice more: If you’re communicating well with people, they tend to trust and like you, and that will make it easier to like - and enjoy helping - them.
☑ And, chances are pretty good that your practice will also be more profitable, because clients will see the value in your fees.

In order to best serve a client, you must connect with them on an emotional level. 😍 Here are 3 reasons why:

✔ Human decisions are driven by logic and emotion.
✔Emotion plays a big role in decisions that are stressful or personal (much of law involves one or both of those!).
✔When aware of your client’s objectives and fears, you guide him or her more effectively.

❤️ Emotional connection is a necessary component of dealing with client relationships because it allows you to see the subtext of a situation. It prepares you to deal with any emotional reactions and interpret communication in a more empathetic way. This way you can have control of conversation and maintain a healthy attorney-client relationship. After all, if you can be yourself with the people you do business with, you’re in good company.
