Feeling inspired after attending Congresswoman Deborah Ross’ annual State of Women event on Friday! I had the pleasure of reconnecting with so many amazing women I know and admire. We engaged in powerful conversations about the issues impacting women across the state — from the wages of daycare workers to the urgent need for affordable housing. We also discussed the importance of networking and supporting one another as we work toward solutions.

Grateful for the opportunity to be in the room with such incredible women. Let’s keep the conversation going and the momentum strong!

Senate Bill 227, titled “Eliminating DEI from Public Education,” passed the state Senate 28-18, along party lines, on Tuesday. The bill forbids educators from teaching “divisive topics” in public schools and the existence of any offices called “Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.”

The truth of the matter is that teachers in K-12 education aren’t teaching divisive topics. They don’t teach that one race is superior to another or that one race is inherently racist or oppressive as the text of this bill implied. They also don’t teach that an individual’s moral character is necessarily determined by his or her race or s*x or an individual, solely by virtue of his or her race or s*x, bears responsibility for actions committed in the past by other members of the same race or s*x.

This bill insults the integrity of our extremely underpaid teachers. They show up every day and deal with all types of challenges, and NC already passed a Parent Bill of Rights in 2024 that gives parents the right to inspect books and curriculums.

The truth of the matter is that one party wishes to halt any advances made by the non/majority in this country under the disguise of an attack against diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Tell your legislator this only causes division-it doesn’t prevent it.

🌸 Roseville Chamber of Commerce Women’s Leadership Brunch 🌸

I had an AMAZING time at the Roseville Chamber of Commerce’s Annual Women’s Leadership Brunch on Friday! This event is always a highlight, but this year was truly something special.

✨ The decorations were absolutely beautiful.
✨ The speakers were inspiring and so on point.
✨ The free mimosas? Yes, please!
✨ I even won a gift — what a treat!
✨ The networking was top-notch — it’s always great connecting with so many powerful and driven women.

This is honestly one of the best events the Chamber puts on each year. Huge kudos to the committee and the board for organizing such a fabulous and memorable experience. Looking forward to next year already! 💖

It is clear that some state legislators really hate education. From essentially defunding it through their opportunity scholarship vouchers-money transferred to private schools, from underpaying teachers, underfunding rural schools and ignoring a legal mandate to equitably fund our rural schools, supporting the dismantling of the US Department of Education and now this! NC Republicans Legislators are not slowing down in their attacks against Diversity, Equity (fairness), and Inclusion in North Carolina. Earlier last week they proposed HB 171 to attack these values in state agencies. On yesterday, we learned there is now HB 222, an attack against Diversity, Equity (fairness) and Inclusion in Education. Why do they want to punish our kids or “dumb” them down?

Some N.C. state legislators have proposed a bill that attacks diversity, equity (fairness) and inclusion in our state. Yet the bill doesn’t define what they mean by diversity, equity, and inclusion programs or activities. It criminalizes actions by officials that are found to have engaged in diversity, equity (fairness) and inclusion. It seeks to protect Veternans and disabled persons so who are they targeting? Women? Are they also targeting certain racial groups? Are they targeting the LGBTQAI community? If you are a N.C. citizen, you deserve an answer. It takes all of us to make NC’s economy work. The recent firings at the government level are hitting home-literally. More people are afraid of losing their homes, due to a lack of employment. -Attorney Taylor

“After losing his job at the U.S. Forest Service, Cameron McKenzie was worried about finding a new job. But first, he had a more immediate concern: How was he going to pay the mortgage?

He’s done the math — finding another job in the environmental sector could take months — and keeping up with the nearly $2,700 monthly payment on his three-bedroom home in Blairstown, N.J., will be a challenge, if not impossible. “Even on unemployment,” said Mr. McKenzie, 27, who worked as a community engagement specialist, “I’m not going to be able to make my mortgage payment.”

Mr. McKenzie’s termination was among thousands of federal job cuts, part of a purge of the work force under an executive order signed by President Trump. The abrupt firings have left federal workers and contractors throughout the country in flux, with many distressed over their housing.

The effect of the layoffs has been palpable, especially in the Washington area, where there are more than 300,000 federal government employees. Rumors have swirled that the firings are causing the area’s housing market to crash after videos began circulating on social media.”

The abrupt firings have left federal workers and contractors throughout the country in flux, with many distressed over how they will pay the mortgage or rent.
