From 16 January 2023, First Home Buyers can choose to pay an annual property tax instead of Stamp Duty when buying a property up to $1.5 million.

The annual property tax payments will be based on the land value of the purchased property.

Buyers that opt in will pay the following property tax rates for 2022-2023:

• $400.00 plus 0.3% of land value for properties whose owners live in them.
• $1,500.00 plus 1.1% of land value for investment properties.

It is important to note the tax rates will be indexed each year, so that the average property tax payment rises in line with average incomes.

First home buyers will continue to be eligible to apply for full Stamp Duty exemption for properties up to $650,000.00 and concessions for properties between $650,000.00 and $800,000.00.
