Found these under the persimmon tree in my yard this morning. If you hunt and you've got a persimmon tree on your ground, pay attention to it this time of year.

Once the fruit gets soft and starts dropping, deer will check under that tree every single day until it's picked clean. It's one of the best natural food sources in Missouri this time of year. My lab apparently agrees, because he beats me to them most mornings.

There's also the old folklore. Split a seed open and look at the shape inside. A spoon means plenty of snow to shovel. A fork means a mild winter. A knife means cold, cutting wind. I can't vouch for the science, but plenty of folks out here swear by it.
