The Washington College of Law Equal Justice Foundation (EJF) is a student-run organization dedicated to a more just society through the practice of law.
EJF aims to support public interest lawyering and serve underrepresented communities. Established at American University, Washington College of Law in 1989, EJF is a non-profit, student-run organization. Throughout the school year, EJF raises money and collects donations from students, faculty, staff, and the business community to fund stipends for WCL students who have secured positions with public interest organizations and demonstrated a committment to the Equal Justice Foundation. All proceeds are directly distributed to WCL students; no money is used for overhead.

EJF aims to close the justice gap through the provision of legal services to marginalized communities, support public interest students on campus, and promote social justice lawyering. In part, EJF raises funds to provide stipends for WCL students who take unpaid summer internships with public interest legal organizations in the United States and abroad.

The In My Backyard (IMBY) week of service will take place between Monday, August 10, and Friday, August 14, 2020. Instead of a single day of service in DC to kick off fall orientation, IMBY 2020 will be held virtually over the course of an entire week, and volunteers can pick a day to serve their own communities in-person or volunteer for an organization virtually.

We hope everyone is having a restful and healthy Spring Break! Each year the Equal Justice Foundation hosts an auction to fund its summer fellowship program that provides a stipend for WCL students who intern with a non-profit legal organizations that provide direct client legal services! The first item reveal of this week is an awesome Sonia Sotomayor Swag Basket! It includes a signed copy of her autobiography, her children’s book, and other great Sotomayor gear. For all our Sotomayor stans out there, we will see you at the auction!
This year, for the first time ever, the EJF's Annual Public Interest Auction is going ONLINE! As with many other universities, WCL has gone online for the remainder of the spring semester to mitigate the risks posed by COVID-19. However, our EJF students still intend to work unpaid this summer to support underserved communities around the world and need your help!
Mark your calendars for an incredible fundraising auction, tentatively beginning March 26th, where you can support public interest lawyering from the comfort of your home! More details and a link will be released soon!

EJF will be selling used textbooks for the spring semester TODAY in Grossman Hall until 4 pm and MONDAY, JAN. 13 outside the dining hall at lunch! Textbooks are $50 and supplements are $20. Books are first come-first served. All proceeds go directly towards summer stipends for unpaid public interest internships for WCL students!
