Lily Fundraising for the Presidential Inauguration Conference

Lily Fundraising for the Presidential Inauguration Conference Presidential Inauguration Conference My name is Lily Zacharias and I am currently a freshman at Deerfield High School. area. House of Representatives and the U.S.

As part of the Congressional Youth Leadership Council, I have been selected to attend this year’s inauguration in January, 2013. I believe I am the only Deerfield High School student who participates in this educational leadership program. As a fifth grader, I was first selected to attend the Junior National Young Leader’s Conference in Washington, D.C. as a result of my excellent grades, positive

attitude, leadership qualities and abilities as a speaker and debater. JrNYLC is part of the Congressional Youth Leadership Council, a program that introduces children of all ages throughout the United States, who show great potential as future leaders as well as and a demonstrated level of success in their school settings, and refines their abilities and knowledge. The program involves teamwork, communication, speaking and tolerance exercises as well as many other activities while exploring the Washington, D.C. The following year, I attended the conference in Boston; I learned about the significance of the past, it’s relevance to the present, while walking the freedom trail and visiting other important sites. At the end of the Boston conference, I was selected to deliver the commencement speech to my peers. The most recent conference I attended was in Chicago, gathering students from around the state who had previously attended leadership conferences. This conference focused mostly on teamwork and I was again chosen to deliver the commencement speech, which is on YouTube. In July, 2012, I will again go to Washington, D.C., for my fourth leadership conference. Among other areas of explorations, we will study in the Library of Congress, participate in mock debates of national laws and bills currently pending in the U.S. Senate. I just learned that I have also been given the exclusive opportunity to attend the Presidential Inauguration in 2013 as part of CYLC. The Presidential Inauguration a once in a lifetime opportunity for a student, to better enhance my understanding of government, politics, presidential campaigns, foreign policies and further fortify my leadership skills. Former Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice and General Wesley Clark are honored keynote speakers, and they will address our small group of scholars. I am seeking sponsors who will help financially to allow me to attend this historic event. The total cost is $2964 but any amount will help. I have set up a webpage to acknowledge any individual or business who assists me and will notify the local newspaper of my attendance. Thank you in advance; your assistance is greatly appreciated. If you would like any additional information about this program or my involvement in it, please contact me at [email protected] or call me at 312-607-9118. Donations can be sent to Lily Zacharias
