Black Lives Matter! Racism is a systemic problem in law-enforcement, the criminal justice system and in American Society. The Law Offices of Jon W. Norris stands in solidarity with The Black Lives Matter movement and with all people of color facing oppression. We support Defunding and Demilitarization of the police, we support transparent and public civilian oversight of law enforcement with authority to investigate, sanction and refer for prosecution officers who abuse their authority. We support Criminal Justice Reform to turn back the tide of aggressive prosecution tactics and harsh mandatory sentencing schemes. We support bail reform and we support a system of zealous and well funded Public Defenders to lead the way in advocating for those who have been disenfranchised and persecuted. For 30+ years Jon W. Norris has advocated for those facing persecution from law enforcement and a hostile criminal justice system!

This evening I received a wonderful phone call from a client of mine who was just released from the DC Jail. A 21 year old young man with no prior convictions who was preventively detained because in Federal Court their is a presumption of dangerousness in drug cases, if the potential sentence is high enough. He has had a lifetime of breathing issues. We have been filing motions for his release and supplemental pleadings informing the Court of his medical history and of the rapidly deteriorating conditions at the jail. The Judge considered all of these factors, and more, and determined that release was appropriate. The Judge’s decision was the right thing to do. It took almost 23 hours to get him released after the order, due to a power outage at the jail today, but I’ve never been happier to get a call from a client!! Great work by my Associate Rachel Amster!

The Harvard law professor representing Harvey Weinstein is being removed as a faculty dean

Horrible Decision by Harvard, an important teaching moment was lost to political correctness and mob mentality. Every single defendant has a Right to Assistance of Counsel, the Bar requires a standard of Zealous Advocacy and if they can afford it, an accused has a right to the lawyer of their choice. The lawyer is not the accused. The lawyer does not endorse the offense or conduct for which a client has been accused. Is Harvey Weinstein a Scumbag? Sure seems like it. Should a lawyer be penalized for representing an accused who is perceived to be a scumbag? NO! Ronald Sullivan is a Good Human Being and he is an excellent lawyer, and I am sure he is an excellent Faculty Dean. There is no allegation that Ronald Sullivan has done anything inappropriate, because he hasn't. Only a complaint that he represents an unpopular defendant. Students and Administration need to learn a lesson about the 6th Amendment to The Constitution, the Right of Assistance of Counsel and Due Process of Law. A sad day for Higher Education.

A Harvard University law professor who faced criticism on campus for representing Harvey Weinstein in his sexual assault trial is being relieved of his position as faculty dean of an undergraduate house.

Using Project Veritas As A Source Is Still Causing Headaches For Federal Prosecutors In Washington

The government concedes that they violated evidence rules by failing to tell the defense about the video edits and dozens of undisclosed videos, but the US attorney's office wanted a statement from the judge, that there was no intentional misrepresentation by the government.

Prosecutors argue they didn’t intentionally mislead a judge and defense lawyers in withholding dozens of videos secretly recorded by Project Veritas during Inauguration Day protest-planning meetings.

DISMISSED! Remember the 219 protesters who were arrested at Trumps Inaugural and charged with Felony Rioting? All on the same Statement of Facts. The same cases where the Chief Judge found Prosecutorial Misconduct because the lead prosecutor failed to disclose 68 surreptitiously filmed videos that contained exculpatory evidence. Well after a year and a half, the Government finally dismissed the last remaining 38 cases. The number of Citizens/"Felony Rioters" Convicted at Trial equals 0, that's right Zero! This outcome could have been predicted from the start. Congratulations to all of the Attorneys who protect our Freedom of Speech.

The United States of America is a Nation built upon the promise of religious liberty. Our Founders honored that core promise by embedding the principle of religious neutrality in the First Amendment. The Court’s decision today fails to safeguard that fundamental principle. It leaves undisturbed a policy first advertised openly and unequivocally as a “total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States” because the policy now masquerades behind a façade of national-security concerns. But this repackaging does little to cleanse Presidential Proclamation No. 9645 of the appearance of discrimination that the President’s words have created. Based on the evidence in the record, a reasonable observer would conclude that the Proclamation was motivated by anti-Muslim animus. That alone suffices to show that plaintiffs are likely to succeed on the merits of their Establishment Clause claim. The majority holds otherwise by ignoring the facts, misconstruing our legal precedent, and turning a blind eye to the pain and suffering the Proclamation inflicts upon countless families and individuals, many of whom are United States citizens. Because that troubling result runs contrary to the Constitution and our precedent, I dissent.
Justice Sonia Sotomayor

McGahn made the decision because many of his own attorneys “had been significant participants” surrounding the firings of Michael Flynn and James Comey, White House attorney Ty Cobb said.

Michael Cohen, ex-Trump lawyer, likely to cooperate with federal prosecutors

It looks like Cohen's Going to Roll! His former lawyers were ok being paid almost a quarter of a million dollars by the Trump Campaign but they must surely interpret Cohen's cooperation with Mueller as a conflict of interest. Hence they are leaving the case.

Michael Cohen, a former lawyer for President Donald Trump, is likely to cooperate with federal prosecutors, and he has no legal representation, according to a new report.
