Free virtual Adult (18+) ESL classes!

Two separate classes held virtually Monday and Tuesday nights at 7pm beginning October 9th and lasting for 8 weeks (no class Thanksgiving week). Each class is divided by level of proficiency.

Special thanks to Iglesia Misionera in Pierson, Florida, and Pastor Eloisa Otero for hosting an information session to help community members understand the impact of Florida's new immigration law SB 1718. Last Saturday, Attorney Alex presented an overview of the law and led the discussion before a packed house, with Spanish interpretation from Pierson City Counsel representative Sergia Cardenas. Representatives from Volusia County Sheriff's Office also attended and responded to community questions. Topics covered included new restrictions affecting immigrants on in-state and out-of-state driver's licenses, "human smuggling," hospital attendance, employment, state immigration enforcement powers, DNA collection, and attorney licensing.

A follow-up discussion is scheduled for Saturday June 3 at 10am at Iglesia Misionera in Pierson.

Getting a Covid-19 vaccine has become one of the many requirements for applying for a U.S. green card or immigrant visa. For many reasons, some folk are unable to meet this requirement - for instance, health concerns, philosophical or religious concerns, regional unavailability, or age limitations. Last Sunday, we celebrated the Latin Festival & Celebracion de Tres Reyes (Three Kings Celebration) at the Dewey O. Boster Sports Complex in Deltona, FL. Hundreds showed up for food, gifts and live music to celebrate Latin America. Thanks so much to the Volusia County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce for organizing the event and all the dozens of volunteers and organizations that contributed. We had a great time giving out immigration information and dulces!

Immigos had a great time volunteering at the Citizenship Clinic presented by Orlando Center for Justice at the Hope CommUnity Center in Apopka to provide free legal assistance to the community. Hurricane Ian put a damper on the clinic size this year, but we were still able to help dozens apply for US citizenship. Thanks to all the volunteers!
