A Will and a Trust can both help distribute assets, but they work very differently.

A Will takes effect after death and typically goes through probate. A Trust can help manage assets during your lifetime and may allow certain assets to pass outside of probate. For some families, a Will is sufficient. For others, a Trust may offer additional benefits.
