Random acts of kindness

-Today we give a big to Officer Sean Wyman. He responded to a call for service regarding a man with a young baby standing out in the cold for hours. Officer Wyman discovered the man, David, was a military veteran, husband, and father. Here is what Officer Wyman said about this particular call:

“I was dispatched to check on this man's welfare today. Upon my arrival, I discovered he had two daughters ages 2 and 3. He explained one had a rare blood disease who was sick at home with his wife. He shared with me how he lost his full time temp job and was now out here with his healthy daughter on the interstate exit panhandling for a way to feed his family tonight”.

Officer Wyman fed him and made sure the family was comfortable for the night. He sent a plea for further help to other officers, friends and local non profit groups. He asked for help for David to find a job so he could take care of his family sending this message to everyone:

“If you are in need of a hard worker in the Big Bend area or have access to food resources or know someone else that can help comment below.
David is not asking for money. His family needs food and he needs a job. He does not have a car but he can get around on the bus.”

Job offers and help poured in! Less than 24 hours later this update was provided by Officer Wyman:

“UPDATE: December 31, 2018
I wanted to take a minute to update everyone. First thank you to everyone for the unbelievable amount of love and support for this family.
In less than 24 hours this family has a house full of groceries, over 50 job opportunities that are being reviewed and considered, the electric bill is being paid off, and financial donations from all over the place to help support this family while they get back on their feet.
Thanks for answering the call! Together one human at a time! God bless you all!”

Thank you Officer Wyman! You are

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS: Not paid for hours worked. Need help! I work in IT in software development remotely from home. I worked for my client through my employer. My project contract was abruptly terminated by the client. I did not know it before until my recruiter from my employer company called me on the last day at 2pm that "Today is my last day". Having heard that on phone from the recruiter, I worked until 5pm, as he had said today is my last day. The client paid only up to 2pm as they said I was informed at 2pm by the recruiter. I had a meeting with the client at 2pm which i attended also continued work in the system which is timestamped with my work details in the client system. Should I be compensated for my 3 hours of work from 2pm to 5pm from the client or my employer as my recruiter also was not aware that i should stop working at 2pm and hence had mentioned to me, "today is my last day". Please let me know if the client or employer is liable to pay me for these 3 hours given that i have timestamp of my work in the client system also had meeting with them during those hours.

MY ANSWER: Your agreement appears to have been with the employer not the client. Therefore, the client pays the employer and the employer pays you. It appears that you're compensated hourly. The standard for worked is allowed to suffer to continue working which appears to be the case since your work is time stamped and you normally work until 5. If all this is true, the employer owes you 3 hrs for which you may file a complaint with the Department of Labor in the event that the employer refuses to compensate you. Good luck.

US Department of Labor: WHD's mission is to enhance the welfare and protect the rights of American workers by enforcing employment laws.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS: Can the employer bring up in her report personal issues in my life? I was discharged from my employment and applied for unemployment until I find work. My unemployment was denied and I have an appeal

MY ANSWER: You haven't provided enough information to technically respond to you question. "Unemployment" benefits are assigned if there was no cause for termination. So, for ex: if your "personal issues" prevented you from showing up to work, than that might be mentioned but, if the "personal issues" qualify you as a protected class (ex. race, gender, age, pregnancy) than, no those things can't be mentioned. You may want to see an attorney for a consultation and provide the details. Good luck.
