A few days ago, I stood in Houston and pointed toward East Africa. 🌍

Today, I’m actually headed in that direction. ✈️🇰🇪🇹🇿

The journey to the Motherland begins TODAY. ❤️

I’m going to learn, listen, connect, and serve ; offering my hands and heart as a doula and birth assistant while learning from the birth workers and communities who call this place home.

East Africa… I’m coming. 🥹🌍✨

“DO YOU SEE US HERE?”

That’s what was written across the mirror at the Houston Medical Museum’s Call Me Mother exhibit.

So I looked in the mirror. 🥹

And I saw a mother.
A doula.
An advocate.
A woman who spends so much time making sure OTHER women feel seen.

After four days in Houston with the March of Dimes Community Doula crew, this moment hit differently.

Because this work is about more than birth.

It’s about visibility.
Representation.
History.
And making sure our stories are not erased.

Standing in that Houston mirror, I realized:

I see us. 🖤

Do you?

Baby, rural communities have something to SAY! 📣🌾

From Albany to Tallahassee and everywhere in between, we’re showing up, building community, supporting families, and making sure birth justice reaches EVERY corner; not just the big cities.

Because rural life doesn’t mean rural voices. 💪🏾✨

The Sis Stars are outside today! ⭐️💜

One handles the advocacy.
Both have something to say. 😂

Yesterday was a beautiful reminder that community care takes many forms. ❤️

I had the opportunity to attend the ribbon cutting for the new Impact Center at Second Harvest of the Big Bend and I’m excited to see this investment in our community.

As someone who works in maternal health and early childhood, I know that food access is about so much more than having something to eat. It impacts pregnancy, infant health, child development, family stability, and the overall well-being of our communities.

When we make sure families have access to the resources they need, we create healthier families and stronger communities.

Congratulations to Second Harvest of the Big Bend on this incredible new chapter! 🎉

This is community care. This is impact. This is why the work matters. 💚

They Weren’t Just Teachers. They Were Their Safe Place. 🖤

25 years ago, I was in high school, enrolled in a Career Tech program preparing to become an educator. I was also Vice President of my school’s Future Educators Club when 9/11 happened.

Today, as an early childhood educator and advocate, I think about that day through a different lens: the children.

At the Children’s Discovery Center in the World Trade Center complex, early childhood educators gathered babies and young children, held little hands, carried them, and led them to safety.

Every child from the center survived.

It reminds me of the incredible responsibility we place in the hands of early childhood educators.

We don’t just entrust them with our children’s learning.
We entrust them with their lives.

25 years later, I honor the educators who showed extraordinary courage when their children needed them most.

Early childhood educators matter. 🖤
Never forget.
