Why do you need a lawyer? Insurance companies do not play fair. A legal battle in the State of Oklahoma between State Farm and hundreds of policyholders offers a unique glimpse into how insurance companies scheme to unfairly deny claims. Lawyers representing policyholders forced the disclosure of internal emails showing State Farm executives cheated policyholders after a consulting company provided State Farm data alleging they were overpaying claims.
State Farm thereafter denied 39% of claims, most of which should have been covered under the terms of their policy. They provided adjusters with limited authority and required "managerial review" the same strategy they use with unrepresented accident victims. The disclosures show how executives planned the scheme and contain many smoking gun emails from State Farm contractors complaining that payments were too low.
I do not mean to single out State Farm by posting this. I have found them to be fair on many cases. I have settled six cases against State Farm for the policy limits this year alone. I am posting to illustrate the tactics that all insurance companies use to keep more of your premium and pay out less.
A Cleveland County judge has unsealed internal State Farm communications about wind and hail claims practices in a fraud lawsuit by Oklahoma homeowners.
