A typical farmhouse could be purchased for a few hundred dollars, farmland sold for just a few dollars an acre, and a loaf of bread cost only two cents. Of course, those prices reflected a very different economy and much lower incomes. As America celebrates its 250th anniversary, take a look back at what some everyday items cost in the 13 colonies compared with today.
