At The Q Card Project, we believe that queer youth deserve excellent healthcare from competent and culturally sensitive providers. The Q Card is a simple and easy-to-use tool for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer/questioning (LGBTQ) youth and their healthcare providers. The goal of the project is to empower youth to become acti

ve participants in their healthcare, and to educate providers about how to be better advocates and allies for young LGBTQ patients. Ultimately, we hope that this will lead to increased self-efficacy among youth, better health outcomes for LGBTQ people, and improved sensitivity among healthcare providers. The Q Card is a tri-fold business card that allows youth to fill in their preferred name and pronouns, sexual and gender identities, and any questions or concerns. The bottom panel is a tear-off with tips for providers on how to be more sensitive when working with queer youth. The Card guides youth through a conversation on privacy and confidentiality, and encourages them to come out to their healthcare providers. Here's what you need to know about this project:

-Based on the results of a feasibility study conducted in 2013, we know that the Seattle community is excited about this project.
-Five focus groups with LGBTQ youth and 23 interviews with medical and service providers demonstrated that people not only liked the idea, but also wanted to see it operationalized in a pilot.
-We are printing 35,000 copies of the Q Card, and distributing them across Seattle and King County. This is an ENTIRELY community-run project. We are always looking for dynamic partners and new funding opportunities! Connections? Email [email protected]

Well this was a fun piece of anonymous mail to receive in my PO Box!

Here’s the deal: see that little Ⓡ symbol next to the name Q Card? That’s a Registered Trademark. That means that the US Patent and Trademark Office decided that my product demonstrated significant differences from the QVC Q Card (a credit card) such that a reasonable person would not confuse the two.

So yeah. I suspect QVC is smart enough to leave this alone.

Anyway. I’m still here and still shipping Q Cards (the q***r healthcare ones, not the QVC ones, in case you were confused). 🏳️‍🌈 🏳️‍⚧️

We mourn. We fight. We dance.

At the height of the AIDS crisis in the US, our people would go to funerals in the mornings, protests in the afternoons, and dance parties in the evenings. That’s how they survived. They grieved the loss of their chosen family. They fought like hell for the living and dying. And they found joy in community. They showed us the way and we stand on their shoulders. We’re not going anywhere.

I know y’all haven’t heard from me in a while, and here’s the reason! This dreamy gayby joined us six weeks ago. I’ve never been more exhausted or more in awe. I’m still doing my best to keep up with Q Card orders, and I’m aware of (and working on!) issues with the website/email. For now you can reach me at [email protected]

Thank you for your continued support, and for your patience while I adjust to life as a new parent!
