Is workers' comp the same thing as L&I? Yes, and that one question brings a lot of injured Washington workers to this page.

Here's what most people miss: once L&I makes a decision on a claim, you have 60 days to protest it (back to the same claim manager) or appeal it (to an independent board). Miss that window, and the decision usually stands.

If someone other than your employer caused your injury, a separate third-party claim can run alongside your L&I claim, not instead of it.
