Peterson, FAIA, the studio has received over 60 design awards and honors for their work including 40 design awards from the American Institute of Architects. The high quality and originality of their work over an extended period of time has raised public awareness of the value of an architecture based upon honesty and simplicity. The springboard for OFA’s work has been the regional modernism of th

e “Sarasota School of Architecture," a recognized movement in architecture, which spanned from 1941-1966. The “Sarasota School” blended the cultural, vernacular and tropical influences of traditional South Florida architecture with the philosophies of the Bauhaus. Through their use of color, indigenous materials, light and shadow, Guy Peterson | OFA has derived a softened Bauhaus aesthetic, which results in a clear, sustainable and delightful architecture. Their architecture achieves this delight by orchestrating a sequencing of spaces that hold one’s interest through a process of discovery. OFA’s commitment to advancing the cause and public value of architecture derives from a long standing belief in “essentialism”, a concept which demands design by analysis and reduction rather than by stylistic imitation and embellishment. This idea is perhaps best expressed by this quote from Antoine de Saint-Exupery: A designer knows he has achieved perfection not when there is nothing left to add, but when there is nothing left to take away.

"I would rather do a house that people don't like than one they don't notice," architect Guy Peterson said following the completion of the bold, dramatic and controversial Spencer House in 2013.

For architects, there is a fate worse than having their work rejected by clients or criticized by the public. It is having their work ignored.“I

Thanks to SRQ Magazine for the great feature of our Robinson House renovation in their November issue!

Our November issue is all about aspirational living—sit back, relax and let us take you inside the high walls of some of the area’s most spectacular homes. Begin with the horseshoe-shaped renovation on Lido Shores, a neighborhood known for its odes to the Sarasota School of Architecture. A Guy Peterson design gets enhanced by the owner’s expansive collection of pop art, from a massive Jim Morrison mugshot to Warhol portraits and Chinese appropriations of Roy Lichtenstein favorites. Head down the street and you’ll find Paul Rudolph’s iconic Umbrella House, showcased through the eyes of its new owners. Finally, take a trip south to wooded Osprey, where we get an insider view into a hidden compound designed by Hall Architects that embodies the Japanese ideal of wabi-sabi.

After taking in the sights of these resplendent residences, give your tastebuds a chance to experience the same bouts of wonder with dishes from, two newcomers to the Sarasota culinary scene, Boca Kitchen, Bar & Market and The Coolinray. While at Lelu Coffee Lounge, get the SPAM you’ve dreamed of. And don’t forget to dive into the Louies Modern kitchen with Chef Jose Rojas.

As if all that weren’t enough, we’ve also checked in on the progress of the Sarasota Museum of Art, going inside the building for an exclusive look at what is coming. Fashion designer Camilyn Beth lets us into her studio to talk about ‘60s inspirations, the modern woman and how she fuses New York sensibilities with Floridian aesthetics, while landscape architect Robert Davie reclines amidst his designs in the newly completed Community Aids Network garden.

In other news, we get down and dirty in the laboratory with the next generation of Mote Marine scientists, and jumped across the pond to monitor the effect of Brexit on the Gulf Coast in. We bring it back home with a symposium focusing on attainable housing in Sarasota, tapping the knowledge of three local housing experts.

Get swept away this November!

Aquadisia, a 1999 Guy Peterson project is now on the market!

One of a kind, because of the nearly 4 acres of land behind the gates of the high-end Siesta Key enclave known as the Sanderling Club. And, because of its 550 linear feet of sandy Gulf-front property lined with a 1960s-era rock revetment to protect against storms. And, because of its two guest houses and exemplary main house that was designed in 1999 by Guy Peterson, with new interiors by David Lowe and award-winning landscape architecture by David W. Young.

It is one of the most intriguing properties on the Gulf Coast. First, because of the name, Aquadisia, derived from “aphrodisia.” Surrounded by the... Read more »

Peterson, a Distinguished Alumni award-winner from UF’s School of Architecture, has been working in the Sarasota area for more than 35 years, Forest said. His new book, "Naked: The Architecture of Guy Peterson," analyzes architectural elements and will play into his Friday discussion of minimalist modern architecture, he said.

Peterson’s lecture, which begins at 6 p.m. Friday at UF's Fine Arts Auditorium B, are $35 for general admission and $15 for students. He will sign books at a cocktail reception for those in attendance following his presentation.

Fifteen dollars can buy you an afternoon in six modern marvels of local real-estate in a celebration of architecture and design at the Fourth Annual Gainesville Modern Weekend.

For Sale: A Chic, Modern Home on Longboat Key

Sarasota Magazine takes us inside a 1994 home we designed in the Harbor section of Longboat Key that's currently for sale.

"This house has so many interesting things going for it that it’s hard to know where to start. First of all, it’s a very early design by prominent architect Guy Peterson and it shows him not letting his imagination run wild but rather working under the constraints of a strict building code in the Harbor section of Longboat Key. In spite of the restrictions—no flat roof, etc.—he came up with a house that is part Greek temple, part Palladian villa, yet at the same time very modern and blends seamlessly with its more traditional neighbors."

Our Real Estate Ju**ie takes us inside a chic Guy Peterson-designed on Longboat Key that's currently for sale.

Please join us on Thursday, November 19th at 7:00 pm at Bookstore1Sarasota on Main Street where Guy will be signing his monograph "Naked: The Architecture of Guy Peterson."

This landmark volume documents the stunning work of Guy Peterson, who has spent his life pursuing and developing a rich architectural vision carefully tuned to the demands and opportunities afforded by the unique features of Florida and his design-by-removal process that has produced some of America's greatest coastal architecture.

A modernist in his approach, the language of Peterson’s architecture is honesty and simplicity. His work is poetic, human, evokes emotion, and comes from the heart. Through his use of color, indigenous materials, light and shadow, he has derived an aesthetic that results in a clean, sustainable and delightful architecture.

To date, Peterson has received nearly 80 design awards and special recognitions for his work since the inception of his practice in 1980. In 1998, he became one of the youngest architects in Florida to win the Medal of Honor for Design from the Florida Association of the American Institute of Architects.

Peterson himself will be on hand to chat and to sign his book. Please join us for this rare opportunity.
