🚨 AB 2783 is officially law. So... what does that actually mean?
First, an important clarification:
An out-of-state RPR does not automatically become a California CSR.
Under the new law, an RPR can satisfy the skills portion of California’s licensing examination. They still have to go through the California licensing process and meet the remaining California examination requirements.
So what does this mean for the legal community?
The hope is that this creates another pathway for qualified reporters to become licensed in California and helps ensure attorneys and litigants have greater access to a qualified human reporter, both in court and in other legal proceedings.
The legislation sparked plenty of discussion, and now that it’s law, we’ll be watching how it impacts access to licensed reporters across California.
