Happy International Women’s Day! While we are excited to celebrate and recognize all of our achievements as women, International Women’s Day is about much more than a social media post. Highlighting female voices today (and all days) is important, but this does not change the fact that gender inequality continues to exist -- especially in the workforce. While social media posts are nice, at the end of the day, they are not solutions. And, as they say, if you’re not part of the solution, you’re part of the problem.

There's more to be done but it's important to recognize the progress being made on many different fronts.

*The annual base pay for the WNBA's highest-paid player will increase from $117K to $215K.

*Players will receive full salary while on maternity leave, an annual child car stipend, and guarantee of 2-br apartments for players with children.

*The 2020 salary cap will be $1.3M, up from $996K in 2019.

The league and its players’ union have agreed in principle on a new collective bargaining agreement that would nearly double the maximum salary and provide paid maternity leave.

Today is Black Women’s Equal Pay Day, marking how far black women had to work into 2019 to make what white men earned in 2018 alone. On average, black women earn 39% less than white men and 21% less than white women.

Our name is 81cents because women, on average, earn 81 cents for every dollar men earn. However, it’s important that we own that, for a lot of women, including women of color, 81 cents is an aspiration. There’s more we can do, faster.

Here are five of the organizations doing working towards pay equity for women of color:

The clock has run out on sexual assault, harassment and inequality in the workplace. It's time to do something about it.
