This Thanksgiving, I find myself reflecting on a year that has brought its fair share of challenges, but also moments of growth, resilience, and unexpected opportunities.
For the past decade, I’ve been fully immersed in building Matheson, working side by side with an incredible team of people. Last year, we had 4,000 employees and a $300 million business. Today, the landscape is much different. It’s been a year of significant change, and while it's been tough at times, I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished and the strength we’ve shown through it all.
One of the most rewarding aspects of this year has been watching the people I’ve worked with go on to create new opportunities for themselves. A former VP, who was uncertain about his next step, took the leap into entrepreneurship and recently acquired his own business. Another colleague and his wife turned their passion for plants into a thriving venture. Seeing them succeed has been a bright spot in what has been a rollercoaster year.
The challenges we’ve faced have been tough, but they’ve opened doors for all of us. And as I reflect on the journey, I’m thankful for the lessons learned, the resilience built, and the new beginnings that lie ahead.
I’ve also been embracing a shift in perspective, finding joy in the things I now have more time for – like racing sailboats, exploring the Idaho backcountry with our plane, and spending time with my family. It’s a reminder that, even in the face of difficulty, there are always things to be grateful for.
I’m thankful for the health of my family, the people who have been by my side through thick and thin, and the chance to be a part of so many incredible stories and journeys. This year has been a test, but it has also been a year of growth, and I’m excited to see what’s next.
Happy Thanksgiving to all of you. May your holiday be filled with gratitude, joy, and the warmth of loved ones. 🦃
