This is an absolute mockery of the program. This is how broken the student loan system is. It will only get worse as there is over 1.5 Trillion dollars of outstanding student loan debt.

It is hard enough being a teacher in the public sector, or working in Public Health, as a First Responder, or other City, County, or State Agency. If the Public Service Student Loan Forgiveness Program is eliminated in the future, then less and less highly qualified, intelligent, and dedicated public service minded individuals will enter the public sector workforce and opt to enter the private workforce instead.

With approximately 1.5 Trillion outstanding student loan debt out there, this problem will not be going away anytime soon.

The Education Department's budget would be significantly reduced under Trump's 2020 budget.

Easier said than done. Until such time as the US Department of Education is #1 Willing to accept the fact that the system is broken, and #2 Willing to shed the current contracts with the servicers, the system will remain complicated, frustrating, expensive to borrowers, and a money maker for the Federal Government.

Unncessary complexity is at the heart of the student loan program's woes.
