I did something a little uncomfortable.

I shared my story on Jaclyn Foster ’s podcast Paralegal In Business … and it’s finally live on YouTube, Apple, and Spotify.

We talked about what made me take the leap and start my business.
Not the polished version. The real one.

The part where I thought taking any client was a good strategy.
(It wasn’t.)

The part where I realized busy does not equal productive. And that saying yes to everything was actually keeping me small.

We talked about how I saw a bottleneck in family law discovery and decided to lean all the way into it. How niching into flat-fee discovery support felt risky at first… but also felt right.

We talked about how my first clients came from LinkedIn messages and word of mouth.
No fancy funnels. Just conversations and doing good work.

But the part that stuck with me the most was this:

That quiet thought that keeps showing up.
The one that says, “You’re meant for more than this.”
The one you try to silence because it feels safer to stay where you are.

I ignored that feeling for a while. I told myself I wasn’t ready. I wasn’t capable. I wasn’t experienced enough.

But the thought kept coming back.

If you have that feeling… the one that won’t leave you alone… that might not be insecurity.

It might be alignment.

I had an end-of-year recap meeting with a client this morning. We were reviewing the work completed over the past year, making sure expectations were met, and mapping out goals for the new year.

Then they said something that stopped me in my tracks.
Probably the most meaningful compliment I’ve ever received and the best part is, I don’t think they even realized how impactful it was.

They said:
When we first met at the beginning of the year, neither of us really knew how to process these tasks. But without any handholding, you taught yourself the systems, identified issues, and used your resources to solve problems along the way. You needed very little guidance from me, and you quickly became the most experienced person on my team.

Those words meant everything.

They reminded me that even on the days I doubt myself, I have the knowledge, resourcefulness, and resilience to solve problems, learn new systems, and deliver high-quality work that meets (and exceeds) expectations.

A second client has officially added VirtuLegal Solutions to their website as part of their team,  not as a “vendor,” not as a “service,” but as a true member of their firm’s support system.

And honestly, that means more to me than I can put into words.

When I started VLS, I knew I didn’t want to run a transactional business model. I didn’t want to be another freelancer who steps in, checks boxes, and moves on. My goal has always been to build lasting relationships, the kind where trust grows, communication flows, and we become part of a client’s long-term strategy, not just their short-term fix.

So being listed on not one, but two client websites as part of their team feels like confirmation that we’re doing things the right way.

It tells me our approach matters.
It tells me our quality is showing.

One of my biggest goals when I started this business was to build long-term, meaningful relationships, not transactional ones. I know that might set me apart from the typical freelance or virtual-assistant model, but that was intentional. I never wanted to be someone who simply “completes tasks.” I wanted to be someone who clients could rely on, collaborate with, and feel confident bringing into the heart of their practice.

My team and I lead with knowledge, skill, and consistency because trust isn’t something you ask for it’s something you earn. And I am so grateful for the attorneys and firms who welcome us in as part of their long-term team, not just temporary support.

Your trust means everything to us.
Your cases, your clients, and your reputation matter, and being invited into that space is something I take seriously every single day.

I usually try to avoid working on weekends, but with Thanksgiving break coming up and my kids’ events filling most of the week, I’m choosing to shift things around a bit.

So here I am, on a Sunday night, laptop open, and getting ahead so I can fully show up for them later. Sometimes balance means compromise. Sometimes it means doing the work now so I can be present when it matters most.
