Sometimes the gable vent is the only way into the attic. This was a removable hatch which made it a little easier. One of us then drew the short straw to go in as you can see!

It is always good practice to have any tree limbs growing in close proximity (or touching) the roof trimmed away (by the appropriately licensed individuals) as this can cause damage to the roof. In this instance, it was suspected the nearby sea grape tree had previously been the culprit.
