Meet Partner Kevin Carlson!

Since joining Pitt McGehee Palmer Bonanni & Rivers in 2006, Kevin has represented individuals in employment, civil rights and complex litigation matters. His notable results include a multimillion-dollar settlement on behalf of 10 employees in an age discrimination case and a $500,000 settlement in a separate age discrimination case.

Kevin also helped secure a significant Sixth Circuit decision in Logan v. MGM Grand Detroit Casino, establishing that employers cannot shorten the time employees have to bring Title VII claims. More recently, he was part of the team that secured a Michigan Court of Appeals ruling in Ippel v. Grace Christian Reformed Church, allowing a childhood sexual abuse survivor’s lawsuit to move forward and clarifying the application of Michigan’s 2018 statute of limitations reforms.

His work has earned him recognition in Michigan Lawyers Weekly’s 2026 Leaders in the Law class and the 2027 edition of The Best Lawyers in America.

Pitt McGehee Palmer Bonanni & Rivers mourns the passing of the Hon. Timothy P. Connors, whose 34 years on Michigan’s bench were marked by compassion, integrity, and a deep commitment to justice.

Judge Connors played a leading role in incorporating Indigenous peacemaking practices into Michigan’s state court system, advancing an approach to resolving disputes that emphasized dialogue, accountability, and reconciliation. His work reflected his belief in the importance of listening to others, understanding different perspectives, and treating people with dignity and respect.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues. His legacy and contributions to Michigan’s legal community will continue to inspire those who knew him and worked alongside him.

Megan Bonanni spoke with Lansing State Journal about Michigan State University waiting 17 months to tell patients about sexual assault allegations against former university doctor Arpit Saxena. Megan, who represented some of Larry Nassar’s victims, and co-counsel Lisa Esser-Weidenfeller represent a third woman who filed a notice of intent to sue MSU this week.

“Any changes in its policies and practices related to sexual abuse that MSU has claimed to have made have failed,” Megan told the Lansing State Journal. “That’s what this case tells us. We’re here again.”

Congratulations to Partner Megan Bonanni on her induction into the Wayne State University Law School Alumni Wall of Fame!

Megan will be honored at tonight’s induction ceremony alongside fellow members of the 2026 class. The Alumni Wall of Fame is Wayne Law’s highest honor, recognizing alumni who have distinguished themselves in their profession and made meaningful contributions to society.

Throughout her career, Megan has advocated for survivors of sexual abuse across the country, including serving on the Survivors’ Creditor Committee in the Larry Nassar litigation, which resulted in a $390 million recovery, and on the Plaintiffs’ Steering Committee in the University of Michigan Dr. Robert Anderson litigation, which led to a $490 million settlement. She continues to advocate for survivors nationwide through her litigation, work on institutional reform and efforts to expand access to justice.

Partner Megan Bonanni and actor and activist Ashley Judd penned an open letter thanking the University of Michigan's Lambda Chi Alpha Sigma Zeta chapter for standing with the Cornell survivors, calling for accountability, and pledging financial support to SafeHouse Center.

They ask other fraternities and men’s groups to follow suit by listening to survivors and holding abusers accountable, even when that means confronting a friend, a teammate, or a brother.

Partner Megan Bonanni was recently published in Michigan Advance alongside Erin Blayer, a survivor of Larry Nassar’s abuse and advocate for survivors, on how Michigan’s current statutes of limitations can prevent survivors of childhood sexual abuse from bringing civil claims years or even decades after the abuse occurred and why Michigan needs to adjust its civil limitations to better support survivors

Drawing on her decades of experience representing survivors of sexual and institutional abuse in Michigan and nationwide, Megan explains why the time it takes survivors to process and disclose abuse often does not align with the deadlines imposed by the law.

The piece highlights Michigan’s proposed Justice for Survivors package, which would extend the civil statute of limitations and create a one-year revival window for previously expired claims, giving more survivors a path to have their cases heard.
