To modify existing custody orders in California, a parent must go to court and file a request showing that circumstances have changed significantly since the last order.
The filing must explain what has changed and why the current orders are no longer appropriate given those changed circumstances.
Once filed, the judge will review the request and determine what new orders best fit the current situation.
