We’ve got merch! We’ve sold out of our limited edition 1st anniversary tee shirts (shoutout to everyone who joined us at our blackout party), but we’ve got four new tee shirt designs available now for pre-order on our Zeffy page. Shoutout to Triple Stamp and Black Gum Print Shop for making this happen and to all the artists who contributed work, including local tattooer Ellie Livingston! The Richmond Community Legal Fund relies on the committed solidarity of many people to accomplish a mountain of hard, but very necessary work. Here’s just some of what that entails in any given week:

* intakes
* translation
* case reviews
* referrals
* trainings
* legal clinics
* community outreach
* payments
* fundraising
* accounting
* compliance
* policy education
* event planning
* sign delivery
* communications

…and probably more that we can’t think of right now! All told, the work of narrowing the justice gap in Richmond is done by over 30 volunteers who bring a wide range of expertise to our team. Featured here are just some of those volunteers; we could not function without all of them.

The Richmond Community Legal Fund was born out of our faith that we could fight the rising tide of fascism and win. This spring, our fund turned one year old. Our team, our movement, and our fight for freedom is much older, and has much farther to go.

In the past year we have covered nearly half a million dollars in legal costs for members of our community facing immigration and civil rights charges. We have paid bonds for our neighbors, we have rushed funds to families in need, we have made critical legal representation accessible for people who would otherwise face the state without a defense. We are fighting back, and we are making a difference.

Our first anniversary Blackout Party is not only hosting live music and local food, we’re hosting a raffle, entirely donated by local artists and businesses!

You don’t have to be present to win, and every dollar counts. Every raffle ticket purchased directly funds legal support, attorney’s fees, bond payments, community and workplace Know Your Rights trainings, and economic stabilization funds for families affected by a loved one’s detention.
