Concerned about child custody schedules during this time? Here is some guidance from the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers:
SEVEN GUIDELINES FOR PARENTS WHO ARE DIVORCED/SEPARATED AND SHARING CUSTODY OF CHILDREN DURING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC
From the leaders of groups that deal with families in crisis:
Susan Myres, President of American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (AAML)
Dr. Matt Sullivan, President of Association of Family and Conciliation Courts (AFCC)
Annette Burns, AAML and Former President of AFCC
Yasmine Mehmet, AAML
Kim Bonuomo, AAML
Nancy Kellman, AAML
Dr. Leslie Drozd, AFCC
Dr. Robin Deutsch, AFCC
Jill Peña, Executive Director of AAML
Peter Salem, Executive Director of AFCC
1. BE HEALTHY
Comply with all CDC and local and state guidelines and model good behavior for your children with intensive hand washing, wiping down surfaces and other objects that are frequently touched, and maintaining social distancing. This also means BE INFORMED. Stay in touch with the most reliable media sources and avoid the rumor mill on social media.
2. BE MINDFUL
Be honest about the seriousness of the pandemic but maintain a calm attitude and convey to your children your belief that everything will return to normal in time. Avoid making careless comments in front of the children and exposing them to endless media coverage intended for adults. Don’t leave the news on 24/7, for instance. But, at the same time, encourage your children to ask questions and express their concerns and answer them truthfully at a level that is age-appropriate.
3. BE COMPLIANT with court orders and custody agreements.
As much as possible, try to avoid reinventing the wheel despite the unusual circumstances. The custody agreement or court order exists to prevent endless haggling over the details of timesharing. In some jurisdictions, there are even standing orders mandating that, if schools are closed, custody agreements should remain in force as though school were still in session.
4. BE CREATIVE
At the same time, it would be foolish to expect that nothing will change when people are being advised not to fly and vacation attractions such as amusement parks, museums, and entertainment venues are closing all over the US and the world. In addition, some parents will have to work extra hours to help deal with the crisis and other parents may be out of work or working reduced hours for a time. Plans will inevitably have to change. Encourage closeness with the parent who is not going to see the child through shared books, movies, games and FaceTime or Skype.
5. BE TRANSPARENT
Provide honest information to your co-parent about any suspected or confirmed exposure to the virus, and try to agree on what steps each of you will take to protect the child from exposure. Certainly, both parents should be informed at once if the child is exhibiting any possible symptoms of the virus.
6. BE GENEROUS
Try to provide makeup time to the parent who missed out, if at all possible. Family law judges expect reasonable accommodations when they can be made and will take seriously concerns raised in later filings about parents who are inflexible in highly unusual circumstances.
7. BE UNDERSTANDING
There is no doubt that the pandemic will pose an economic hardship and lead to lost earnings for many, many parents, both those who are paying child support and those who are receiving child support. The parent who is paying should try to provide something, even if it can’t be the full amount. The parent who is receiving payments should try to be accommodating under these challenging and temporary circumstances.
Adversity can become an opportunity for parents to come together and focus on what is best for the child. For many children, the strange days of the pandemic will leave vivid memories. It’s important for every child to know and remember that both parents did everything they could to explain what was happening and to keep their child safe.
New child support regulations in effect this month
New regulations outlining the guidelines a court uses when calculating child support are now in effect, according to the Nevada Division of Welfare and Supportive Services. The new guidelines eliminate the minimum flat rate, which some noncustodial parents could not provide. It also eliminates the p...
Oh ya!!! The best criminal lawyer in town. Taking care of Burning Man Clients at 8:00 pm with a smile. Mr. Routsis just rolled in from the playa at 4:00 a.m., and he got straight to working today to help the community.
It's that time of year again for Burning Man. As you may know John Routsis is a very experienced criminal defense attorney and is the main lawyer referral on the Burning Man website. He has handled 100's of cases related to Burning Man and has been successful for those clients.
If anything happens be cooperative with officers but you should not consent to a search and you should assert your right to an attorney. Do not speak to them about anything you or your passengers may or may not have. Everyone should assert their right to an attorney and maintain that until you do speak to your attorney. If you need help, give us a call (775) 785-9116. If you are arrested, give us a call before you bail out as we should be able to get that lowered.

Just a friendly reminder for everyone that is heading out to the Playa, all federal, state and local laws exist at Burning Man. Remember, Black Rock City is on federal land, and ma*****na is illegal federally. Meaning it is illegal for recreational and for medical use. During the Burning Man event there are law enforcement agencies that are in constant patrol during the event, as well as, on duty officers in all neighboring cities patrolling people on their way to Burning Man. We advise that you make sure the vehicle you are driving has current registration, and there is nothing that will obstruct any vision of your license plate. If you are carrying bike racks on the back of your vehicle take some extra time to double check that nothing obscures any vision of your back license plate. Before leaving test the entirety of your vehicle lights i.e. license plate lights, taillights, running lights, turn signals, and headlights. If you are pulling a trailer make sure to familiarize yourself with the lighting system and make sure everything is connected and works.
We hope you take all precautions and great care while you are on your way to the event and while you attend Burning Man. However, if you receive any citations or get arrested call the Burning Man Lawyer John B. Routsis at 775-785-9116.
All federal, state and local laws still exist at the Burning Man event. Numerous law enforcement agencies patrol Black Rock City and the surrounding communities and roadways, and illegal action can lead to citation or arrest. Law enforcement officers have...

We just received word from someone pulled over for not having a front license plate when they were in the gate line for Burning Man. They ran the dog. If you have a Nevada vehicle, you need a front license plate if there is a place for it or if the manufacturer gave you an adapter for it. Please report these types of interactions to BM.

Hey all. We witnessed a pretty big BLM interaction with the Porch Art car. The Rangers would not let them talk to us and detained them for a long time. They even asked if they were arrested and asked to talk to their attorney - me. The cops threatened to arrest me if I kept talking to them. If you know these folks, have them give us a call. We deal with Burning Man issues all the time. 775-785-9116. And if anyone else had an incident, we'd like to hear about it. If we can't get it handled, we'll refer you to the right person. rights

Here are some things to think about when driving out there. Please make sure all of your things are in order: registration, insurance, tail lights, visible license plates, etc. Do not speed, not even a little. Do not go really slow. Do not do anything stupid. If any of these things are not on point, there is a high likelihood that you will be pulled over. And when you are, you can bet a dog will do a search on the outside of your car. So long as they do not prolong the interaction, they do not need a warrant to run the dog. If the dog alerts, your car will be searched. You should be cooperative with officers but you should not consent to a search and you should assert your right to an attorney.
