I met with a family recently, and they were in a really difficult situation. Their mother’s dementia had progressed to the point where she could no longer sign even the most basic Estate Planning documents--Will, POA, and Advance Directive for Health Care. Now, they’re facing a long, expensive Conservatorship process—something that could have been avoided with earlier planning and saved them thousands.

After closing my downtown Prattville office in March of 2020 due to low vision issues, I wanted to post an update on my legal practice. I now offer limited legal services and concentrate in the areas of Estate Planning (Last Wills and Testaments, Trusts, Powers of Attorney, and Advance Directives for Health Care), Probate of Wills, and Administration of Estates.

Every year, banks, brokerage companies, and other businesses turn over abandoned/unclaimed assets (cash, checks, bonds, life insurance proceeds, etc...) of owners with whom they've lost contact to the Unclaimed Property Division of the Alabama Treasury. The Treasurer acts as custodian of these assets until the rightful owners or their heirs claim them.
To find out if anything is owed to you or your family, you can search the Unclaimed Property Database at the website below. A few years ago, I had clients who discovered over $10,000 of a deceased parent's assets. Who knows? It may be worth a few minutes of your time. Happy Hunting! ☺️
