East Falls Tree Tenders East Falls Tree Tenders is a neighborhood organization that advocates for, educates about, plants and nurtures stewardship of street trees.

A neighborhood environmental stewardship group working under the direction of the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society (PHS). All of our members have been trained by PHS to plant, nurture and advocate for trees.

Saturday, April 18th, a bright and sunny day, EFTT members gathered in front of the Falls Presbyterian Church to launch our neighborhood's Spring 2026 PHS street tree plantings. After yours truly delivered a full set of instructions, three crews fanned out in the community and planted trees, including one for our friends at PWD at their facility on Fox Street.

I am a little late with this news, but better late than never. East Falls Tree Tenders participated in the PHS annual Tree Pruning Club. This late winter program organizes members of the various tree tender groups throughout the city and nearby suburbs to selectively prune street trees planted over the previous 15 years. We put together three teams of four workers apiece from our membership and despite delays from winter storms, we ventured out into the community in late February and the first few days of March and pruned a total of 75 trees on several streets! We pruned them for healthy growth by eliminating competing leaders and cross branching as well as for clearance over sidewalks (8 ft.) & streets (14 ft.)
