As smart as she was funny, Joan Rivers knew what she was doing.

She had all of her final wishes planned out and documented...including her hilarious funeral requests (we'll save that for another post!).

But especially, she wanted to die with dignity.

👉 Thankfully, because she planned in advance, her daughter was able to terminate life support and let her mother go the way she wanted to.

Not everybody gets to go the way they want to. But that's a problem that can be solved, if you just plan ahead.

Parents: are you saving up money for your kids' future? 💰 👫

A word of caution:

DO NOT make the mistake of putting a large amount of money in a UTMA (Uniform Transfer to Minors Act) account.

Why?

🔺 UTMA Accounts are meant for SMALL amounts of money.
🔺 When your kids turn 18, they will have full access to that UTMA account. That means they can spend it however they want as soon as they become an adult.

Scary thought, huh?

👉 Solution: put your money into a trust. That way YOU HAVE CONTROL of the money and decide when they get it, when you feel it's right.

"Should my spouse and I have a joint trust...or two separate trusts?" ❓❓

A common question we get, but thankfully this time, it's simple:

JOINT trusts are a great pick for couples who have:
✔ The same beneficiaries
✔ Same goals on who gets their stuff
✔ Same trustees

SEPARATE trusts are a better option, though, for those couples who:
✔ Are remarried
✔ Expect inheritance to be kept separated
✔ Own property prior to the marriage

Each one has its perks, it all depends on your marriage.

"I just got accepted to receive Medicaid...now what?" ❓❓

Most folks assume that they must wait for a check once they get into the Medicaid program. But that's not how it works.

MEDICAID DOES NOT PAY YOU. You won't see a dime. It pays your bills directly.

👉 So, now that you're qualified, the FIRST THING YOU NEED TO DO is find a facility (assisted living, nursing home care, etc.) that accepts Medicaid. Or if you need home health care, you need to pick a plan through an agency (Blue Cross for example) first that accepts Medicaid.

In other words, the ball is in your court now.
