UPDATE ON WEDNESDAY, in addition to orders below from Tuesday, here is a new order just released by the Governor listing more “essential” businesses:

https://www.sos.ok.gov/documents/executive/1921.pdf

****************************

Let me preface this by stating these are the Governor’s orders, so I cannot interpret them for you. The Governor did a lot of things today, but probably the one that will require the most study is the closing of all non-essential businesses in Oklahoma City, effective Wednesday night. I’ve linked here the three documents you’ll need to fully understand that order.

First, the order itself is #20 on page 5 of this document (also pictured):

https://www.sos.ok.gov/documents/executive/1919.pdf

That document cites this link as the official list of OKC business categories that can remain open. All others are ordered by the Governor to close (with an exception to come in my next link):

https://www.cisa.gov/publication/guidance-essential-critical-infrastructure-workforce

This is a supplemental list of business categories that may remain open, released by the Governor tonight and intended to be read as additional to the US Dept of Homeland Security list:

Governor Laura Kelly has established the Hospitality Industry Relief Emergency (HIRE) Fund to provide bridge loans for Kansas’ hospitality sector during the COVID-19 crisis. Restaurants, conference centers, bars and more can apply for a one-time loan of up to $20,000 to help cover essential business functions. These loans will be fixed at 0% interest for a period of 36 months. https://bit.ly/3bbcxts

Is Naming A Trust As Beneficiary Of Your IRA A Good Idea?

The classic lawyer answer "It depends" .... But So True in this case as in many others!

With year-end fast approaching, now is as good a time as ever to review your IRA beneficiary designation forms. It may seem that naming a trust as an IRA beneficiary is a sound decision—and it can be for some individuals.

Step-Families and Estate Planning | Family Studies

Planning for step-families or other relatively complicated situations can be HARD, but failing to to plan leaves not only the problems but also hurt feelings and damaged relationships. Don't leave your loved ones wondering how you felt, contact an advisor to discuss options that really can help balance all the different interests.

This recent headline caught our attention and reminded us of Candace. We met Candace in 2011 as part of a project studying mid-life adults whose parent or stepparent died a year prior to our interviews.

Are there even fewer Americans without Wills?

According to this new survey, 71.6% of Americans do not have an up-to-date will. Wow. I know it can seem overwhelming or morbid, but I promise I have clients tell me ALL THE TIME that it was so much easier than they thought it was going to be!!

Previous reports had up to 65 percent of Americans without a Will. We also report on out-of-date Wills and reveal that the numbers are even worse.

How to cope with caring for baby boomer parents while raising small children

"The term “sandwich generation” was coined in the 1980s to describe people who are squeezed between taking care of their children and their parents. Now, as members of the baby boom generation are entering their 70s, that sandwich is poised to become a footlong."

When you’re taking care of two generations, you can’t forget to take care of yourself, too.

If you have children who have recently turned 18, now is the time to be thinking about durable powers of attorney for them. As adults of majority age, you as parent no longer have access to their financial or medical information without such a document. Even if they are still under your insurance, you may not be able to get access to medical information about them if they are in the hospital or injured while away at school.
