AmeriCorps JD | Equal Justice Works

There are about 5 AmeriCorps JD intern positions open at Legal Aid Services of Oklahoma in Oklahoma City Office's Veteran Services Department. They work on veteran benefit cases, family law, and housing. The position is not paid, but after completing 300 hours they give you a $1,200 education award toward your student loans (check will be made out directly to bank/or whoever you owe the money to). Not sure but this might count towards your pro bono hours, qualify for the dean's fellowship, or hours towards an externship elective (Contact Carol North for info on those questions).

Find more information about the program on the Equal Justice Works Website:

Public Interest Law Group (PILG)

Week Of Service... volunteer... intern... job!

Law School is only three short years. So make the most of it by gaining experience early. And the best place for students to gain experience is in the public interest sector. The volunteer positions you can secure for this summer will propel you into that stellar position you want the summer before you graduate. Plus, volunteering in the public sector gives back to the community in tremendous ways.
So how do you find these positions? The Public Interest Law Group has many volunteer opportunities in all areas of law; civil, criminal, family, local, state, federal, and many other special interest areas. PILG's annual Week of Service is the best way to test out these legal entities and see where you might be interested in seeking a summer position. "Week of Service" also helps to highlight and support the Dean's Summer Public Interest and Pro Bono Fellowships, which are awarded to qualified students pursuing practical, meaningful experiences working in the public interest field during the summer.

***All hours logged during the Week of Service will count towards the 150 needed to receive a special chord for graduation. You can also include any hours that you volunteer at other non-WOS site organizations. Be sure to log any service hours you complete in Symplicity!***

Participating Organizations:

* Oklahoma County District Attorney's Office

* Oklahoma County District Attorney's Office - Juvenile Div.

Equal Justice Works is excited to pilot a virtual event to connect law students seeking public interest opportunities with employers recruiting dedicated students to support the great work they are doing.

Equal Justice Works has had great success with our annual Conference and Career Fair held in the Washington, D.C. area in October – the largest national public interest legal career fair. While this event has attracted employers and law students from across the country for twenty years, there are students and employers who are unable to attend the in-person event due to time and/or financial constraints.

In an effort to connect more students and employers, Equal Justice Works will pilot the 2015 Virtual Conference and Career Fair.

Friday, October 30
12 to 3 p.m. EDT

Unlike our in-person Conference and Career Fair, the virtual event will not feature prescheduled interviews. Attendees will be able to have one-on-one chats with employers on a first-come, first-served basis during the event.

REGISTRATION

Registration for the pilot event is free for all event participants and is open through October 27.
