I am deeply ashamed to be a US American right now.

What a terrible nation this is to imprison Russian dissenters who are simply trying to exercise their right (under International & US law) to seek asylum. Shameful.

Thousands of Russians are crossing the U.S. southern border to claim asylum. Many are ending up in immigration prison. “I left Russia for a place just like Russia,” said one.

The convicted US Army war criminal Trump released early says he can't get a job at Walmart

Sad that Wal-mart and Target have higher standards than does .

But good for Walmart and Target. Refusing to give a job to a convicted murderer/war criminal who failed to take responsibility for this actions is a very good thing.

This winner of the 2019 Human Rights Award is an organization: "Leading Ladies for Healthy Babies."
The group was nominated to recognize and honor their work to address a fundamental of human rights at its very beginning: a healthy and happy first year of life. This group has been working without much fanfare to give young mothers and newborn infants the best possible chance for a successful pregnancy and birth, and a solid start at a healthy, long life.
The idea grew out of a 2015 summit funded by a March of Dimes grant. The summit prompted a task force, which in March 2016 evolved into the Infant Mortality Alliance with Leading Ladies for Healthy Babies the first initiative the Alliance developed.
“Leading ladies” refers to women who are at the forefront of their faith community, most often as pastors’ wives. By example, they guide a congregation’s most personal faith expression, particularly mentoring other women.
“Infant mortality” refers to the death of an infant before their first birthday, and this statistic is widely used as a measurement of overall population health and the quality of health care in a community, as well as socioeconomic status, and availability of quality health services and medical technology.
Sadly, there are significant differences in the infant mortality rate by race and ethnicity (the mortality rate for African American infants is more than twice that of Caucasian infants.), indicating the persistence of systemic racism and classism. Health inequities have negative consequences, including higher rates of African American women dying from pregnancy complications and giving birth prematurely. Prematurity is the number one cause of death for African American babies.
One of the most effective ways to eliminate health disparities and reduce infant mortality is to engage the community in developing strategies to address challenges that affect them.
Working with families, schools, policy makers and faith communities to become actively involved in identifying relevant issues, making decisions on what needs to be accomplished, and then implementing those changes, leads to success on every level.
Since their inception, the group has held numerous public events where information, services and supplies are distributed to young or expectant parents. In addition, they educate the public to increase understanding of the need for achieving equal access to care, more justice to prevent the issues that lead to poor maternal outcomes.
These leading ladies are stars in this fight for human rights for our most vulnerable women and littlest neighbors.
"Motherhood and childhood are entitled to special care and assistance...."

Good thoughts from an old friend

About two and a half months ago, I left the city I loved because I was beginning not to recognize it anymore; I was beginning not to recognize myself, and I felt that my writing, artistry, mental health and even my voice were beginning to suffer, and would even more so if I continued on the path that I was on. So we left. Moved to a new city and a new life. On the way we did some traveling, and that opened up a new door for me and ignited new passions within me and started my travel group and blog, which I’m very proud of and have made new friends because of. We’ve been in Clearwater about two months now and have made many new friends and had many new adventures along the way. My girlfriend and I are making up for time lost. My voice has truly healed. I am writing now more than I have in a very long time. And while Clearwater is still just a stop along the way towards yet another new chapter, it feels good to relax. The batteries are slowly recharging. And while Nashville is and always will be my second home, and I have friends there who have become family that I think about and miss every day, I honesty believe that leaving the city I love was my best move. So many times in our life we’re told to push ourselves to our limits because that’s the only way to find success. I’m sure I’ve said it before. But is success worth your sanity? Is it worth your happiness? Is it worth your soul? And honesty, if you find happiness and contentment, doesn’t THAT equal success? If you’re reading my post right now I can almost guarantee you that you will never be a billionaire. But you can be happy. You can find contentment and love and joy very easily. Close your eyes, take a deep breath, and see what your perfect life looks like in your head. Take away money and fame from the picture. Just...what makes you joyful? What makes you the happiest? Travel? Music? Writing? Now what are you doing now? Is it anywhere close to the life you’re picturing in your head? If it’s not, how close are you to that perfect life? Are you taking steps towards it? Now...open your eyes and begin to create the life that you want to live. You only get ONE. See y’all on the road...
