Verdict for the Vega brothers!!

Secured a trial verdict of $112,314.48 on June 6, 2024, against a well-known Oklahoma City real estate broker/investor/multi-family operator that refused to pay my clients for their sheet rock and paint services to his 40-unit apartment complex.

After his refusal to pay, my clients hired an attorney to file a lien on the building. When the owner still wouldn't pay, the original lawyer referred this case to my office because of my reputation as a successful trial lawyer and aggressive litigator.

The rest history.

But here's the story: the owner sought to refinance the building after my clients performed the rehab work. He bought this distressed asset for $900k and after the improvements, refinanced it for $3.2 million.

But he didn't pay off the lien (i.e. my clients). Instead, he used the funds at closing to post a bond to remove the lien to satisfy the lender. Oklahoma law allows a property owner to remove a lien if a bond of 125% of the lien value is posted with the court. Which is what he did. Which forced us to take the case to trial. Which we did in successful fashion.

After securing a verdict for the full amount of the lien, we then went back to court seeking reimbursement of attorney fees. On July 26, 2024, the court granted our request for attorney fees in the amount of $36,633.28, plus costs of $2,414.62.

The Court then ordered disbursement of the entire bond amount of $140,393.10 to the Plaintiffs.
