A little bit of Silver Springs State Park in Ocala…

Silver Springs during its peak of popularity in the early 1960s. At least 16 glass bottom boats operating on this day! Before Disney, Silver Springs and Cypress Gardens were Florida’s two biggest attractions. Today, Silver Springs is a state park and they still have glass bottom boats. Not the attraction it used to be, but at least the site still exists for future generations to enjoy. The tall triangular building in the background is the Prince of Peace side attraction. Also in operation during this period was Ross Allen’s Reptile Institue, the Deer Ranch, a Seminole Village and the Carriage Cavalcade car museum. There were also several gift shops and a restaurant.

Ocala is not only very affordable, but also it is one of the few Floridian towns free of any hurricane. It has a slower paced life, no huge traffic jams and lots of parks and trails. I love the stress free life style. What about you?
