Last week, I had the honor and privilege to share my trial advocacy experience with The Citadel’s Mock Trial class.

When I was a cadet, I did a number of activities - varsity wrestler, writer/editor for The Brigadier, walked endless Tours, and was a cast member of the Mock Trial team. Back then, it was a club and we met off hours in the endeavor to scheme our way off campus for select weekends to visit “real” colleges throughout the southeast. Although it was not a dedicated class, we had great volunteer attorneys, such as the late Douglas Miller, and the late John Drennan- both whom left us way too soon. Those experiences left an indelible mark on my time as a cadet and eventually morphed me into the practicing attorney I am today. I am eternally grateful.

LTC Platte Moring deserves a post unto himself, and he along with attorney Elliott Barrow have turned The Citadel’s Mock Trial team into a full blown master class. Impressive doesn’t come close to the marvel they have built.

HAPPY PRESIDENT’S DAY!

As President of Yanni Law, I implore all of you to see and understand what’s going on with our civil jury system. From sea to shining sea, sitting State Governors are placating insurance lobbyists in an effort to dismantle the civil justice system completely. They don’t want fair laws- they want laws that insulate them from liability whilst still charging out of control premiums for phantom insurance coverage.

This is not a left v right issue. This is a Corporation v Citizen issue. Everyone’s rights are at stake! There is a reason our Constitutioon provides the 6th and 7th Amendments. And it’s not for the insurance lobbyists benefit.

In the coming days and weeks I’ll be sharing more information on how to actively engage in the process of preserving rights. Today is President’s day but tomorrow and beyond is OUR day!
