This past week, HIP board members hosted a lunch event where students interested in immigration work right after law school could hear from past HIRC and HIP alumni on how they navigated finding a job, loan repayment, and staying connected to the work. Thank you to Karen, Julia, and Mariana on their wonderful work organizing and moderating.

This past Saturday, four members of our International Refugee Assistance Project (“IRAP”) team attended IRAP’s annual Student Summit in New York. The Summit brought together law students and immigration advocates from across the country to discuss urgent immigration issues, strategic litigation, individual client advocacy and much more. Throughout the day, our students had the chance to learn from a variety of IRAP leaders: Becca Heller, IRAP’s Co-Founder, shared what steps she is taking now to protect the future of immigration law; Ghita Schwarz, IRAP’s Director of U.S. Litigation, provided insight into the kinds of cases that IRAP is currently bringing against the Trump administration, including a recent case in Minnesota; and Carmen Maria Rey Caldas, former IRAP leader and Immigration Judge, spoke candidly about her experience on the bench and her attempts to change the system from within.

Documentary Screening: 3 Uyghur Women

HIP, Advocates, APALSA, and MLSA are excited to co-host a screening of "3 Uyghur Women", a brief documentary film about Uyghur refugees in the Boston area who evaded genocide in their native Xinjiang (a region within China). The film's creator, Avanti Nambiar, and (hopefully) some of the film's subjects will be available for a brief Q&A following the screening. The screening will take place on Friday, November 18th from 12:15 PM - 1:30 PM at Hauser 102. Food from Silk Road Uyghur Cuisine will be served!
