No one talks about this one reason why you shouldn’t rely on ChatGPT for legal advice.
While ChatGPT may be convenient, quick, and cheap, there is something it will never be able to
provide.
And that’s insurance.
Without a proper legal opinion backing you up, you’re making decisions based on quicksand.
Even if you do your own research and fact check, there’s still the risk that things could fall through.
And if that happens, your neck is on the line.
I’m not saying you should never ask ChatGPT anything legal.
In fact, I use ChatGPT all the time.
But when I’m asked to advise the company on something sensitive, I will go to outside counsel to get a proper legal opinion.
Doing so helps me establish a paper trail, which protects me and the other execs, in case things
ever hit the fan.
