Alberto Ramos will be joining us at the BLS conferece!

Alberto Ramos is the head of the Latin America Economic Research team in the Global Investment Research Division at Goldman Sachs since 2010. He joined Goldman Sachs in 2003 as a vice president and was named managing director in 2009. Ramos was a senior economist at the International Monetary Fund for six years and worked with Argentina, Brazil, and Turkey, researching debt sustainability and restructurings. His work has been published in the Journal of Applied Economics, IMF Working Papers, and a Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago series. Ramos earned an M.A. and Ph.D. in economics from the University of Chicago. He has taught at the University of Chicago and the Universidade Católica Portuguesa in Lisbon.

BLS is thrilled to have Paulo Viera as a Panelist this year!

A Director of the Brazilian American Chamber of Commerce, Paulo worked in fixed income markets from 1998 to 2020. He was a Deputy Governor at the Central Bank of Brazil and spent two decades doing economic policy research and advice. He taught at the Universities of São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, and Columbia University, earned his PhD from the University of California at Berkeley, and published extensively in academic journals and professional publications.

BLS welcomes Gustavo Weiss de Resende!

Gustavo Weiss de Resende is currently a Hauser Global Fellow (Postdoctoral Researcher) at New York University (NYU), within the Graduate Tax Program. A postdoctoral scholar, he previously served as a Senior Research Associate in International and European Tax Law at the Vienna University of Economics and Business (WU), Austria, and was also a Visiting Academic at the Centre for Business Taxation (CBT) at the University of Oxford, England. He earned his doctorate in law from the Max Planck Institute for Tax Law and Public Finance and the University of Munich, Germany—a degree subsequently validated in Brazil by the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG)—and his Master’s degree in International and European Economic Law (with an emphasis on international taxation) from Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität Munich (LMU), Germany, also validated in Brazil by UFMG. He holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from the Federal University of Juiz de Fora. Gustavo also possesses extensive academic and practical experience, having worked in the fields of tax law and public finance at international organizations such as the Global Forum of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) in Paris, and within the Tax and Customs Legal Service of the European Commission in Brussels.

Tricia Jo has been confirmed as a panelist!

Tricia is Senior Counsel with Deutsche Bank’s Litigation & Regulatory Enforcement group, where she manages regulatory investigations and litigation on behalf of the bank. Prior to joining Deutsche Bank in 2022, Tricia was a senior associate at King & Spalding where her practice focused on business litigation, government investigations, and securities enforcement. From 2015 to 2018, Tricia was an attorney in the Division of Enforcement of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission where she investigated potential violations of federal securities laws in matters involving public company disclosure fraud, market manipulation, and insider trading. As Enforcement counsel, Tricia conducted parallel investigations with federal criminal authorities and worked closely with in-house economists and market intelligence experts across matters. Prior to joining the SEC, Tricia served as judicial law clerk to the Honorable William G. Young of the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts.

Tricia holds a J.D. from Boston University School of Law and an A.B. from Dartmouth College.
